If the Island was purgatory, they would have shown some bodies at the very very end when they showed the wreckage.
Then how the hell did Desmond "purg-travel" and know exactly what was going on simply because he turned a key a few years ago?

its just horrible to create a story, add sideline after sideline and than drop them and let them unanswered. this is just horrible writing. they draw the viewers attention and then: hey, u thought this was important...haha idiot. everyone would think it was. but not for us. we just leave that unsolved. oh here comes another one. important, yes maybe. but no answers for you. we are a mystery show. mystery means....just make up something, figure it out yourself, read flogs, blogs and logs.
and even 3 show before everythings ends they come out with new stuff. totally absurd.
Well these writers had millions tuning in every episode for 6 years. That is about 4 years longer than most series last on network television these days....

It was an Island, where they all became friends.

I thought the ending was really good. It made me realize that I didn't care about the island mysteries as much as I thought I did, and I cared about the characters more so.

I'm on board with those who think everything that happened on island was real, and that the alt. timeline was limbo. In fact, I think anyone who doesn't realize this either wasn't paying much attention or is a dumbass.

I though it was interesting that the room where Jack met his Dad in contained items from all(?) the major religions of the world.

Goes along with the faith in general theme I guess.

I don't know, I don't really know how purgatory works. Maybe if there is no time there I guess it's possible. Jack died much earlier than Hurley and Ben presumably died though. Did they all just wait around for Hurley and Ben to die?

Or are we just to assume that the island sunk, Ben and Hurley died and then Lapidus crashed the plane and everyone was dead?

that was a great one, but the moment that Lost turned from great to legendary was the scene at the airport between Kate and Jack. That just turned the whole series upside down.

The alt timeline was afterlife in general for this group (not Jack specifically). In it, they not only had to get back together, but also had to deal with their lives, and the things they were disappointed with. (Jack had a son, Lock became a teacher, Sawyer a cop, etc.)

The show's mystery and cliffhangers is what hooked me, the characters and their relationship was second to the island and all the weird stuff that went online . The ending didn't provide the closure i was hoping for. Screw the love triangle , give me answers dammit. What was the ****ing point

I thought I saw Michael in there, I would argue that Walt is not there because he's still living a long, fruitful life in NYC where he belongs.

Another question for the "alt-timeline was purgatory" people: what was the significance of Jack's son? And Locke knew he didn't exist, but how would he know that?

The island was literally what it appeared to be: the gateway to Hell.

Also, despite problems that will inevitably arise with how they ended it, I don't think they could have done any better give the size of the hole they dug themselves into. The ending was fairly consistent with the show's theme and makes sense logically given the rules of the universe they were a part of.
