All the deaths seemed insignificant until the ending imo. With all the flash forward alternate reality stuff (what it seemed to be) I was like "oh wow he died big deal."

Loved it, but still not sure not sure of the ending. I could have sworn when they cut to Jack outside of the cave that he was for sure Smokey, which wouldve made me really sad, but maybe a better ending for me.

The island was definitely not purgatory.

The alternate reality was purgatory.

If the Island was purgatory, they would have shown some bodies at the very very end when they showed the wreckage.

He still has work to do in "purgatory".

Probably "saving" Alex and/or Danielle.

He was not one the members of the original group and therefore was not needed for them to move on ala Anna Lucia.

Michael and Walt not being included in any way seems ridiculous. You brought Michael back for an episode, tried to use him to explain the whispers, failed, and then dropped him completely. I guess when he and Walt left the island under Ben's direction, they "left" the group

This was pretty obvious. No light, no smoke monster, he could leave. Jack beat his ass as a mortal man, not the monster because the light was out during their battle.

I can see the purgatory = alt timeline, but it really diminishes the whole island mystique with Jacob abd MIB - I mean the whole "eventually meet up with your friends and loved ones in purgatory" could have happened without a magical island right?

Depends on which plane we were looking at.

I thought it was an incredibly satisfying conclusion. For said grunchers, some quick observations.

The wreckage is the original wreckage - an homage to the fact that it's still there, and an apt coda to everything that happened in 6 years. Lapidus, Richard (thankfully getting to live a long, regular life,) Miles, Claire, Kate and Sawyer made it off the island on the plane, leading to the next point...

Jack's dad said two things that were incredibly important - everything that happened HAPPENED, and some people were dead, and some lived very long lives. The new planies get to live their lives in present time.

Curious that the alt-timeline is actually a flashforward since Ben and Hurley had clearly already experienced their stewardship of the island for a while, acknowledging their #1 and #2.

I loved so much about this ep, and it is without a doubt the best ep in the series. In fact, I called a friend to say that the first half hour was the best half hour I had ever seen in the series.

BTW, for the gay, I cried the most during the Sawyer/Juliet reunion.

So much to love in here.

- Jay
Thank you, we had the same experience.

The flash sideways (alternate reality) was Jack in purgatory, not purgatory in general.

Was Widmore's explosives ever taken off the plane?

the writers should never get a job again.
its just horrible to create a story, add sideline after sideline and than drop them and let them unanswered. this is just horrible writing. they draw the viewers attention and then: hey, u thought this was important...haha idiot. everyone would think it was. but not for us. we just leave that unsolved. oh here comes another one. important, yes maybe. but no answers for you. we are a mystery show. mystery means....just make up something, figure it out yourself, read flogs, blogs and logs.
and even 3 show before everythings ends they come out with new stuff. totally absurd.

It's an interesting opinion that I like. But you are speaking way too factual about it.

The show isnt about the island at the end is about the characters and there journey,
i liked the ending all the moving encounters and all but since i thought alt timeline was alternate universe, how does it explain that desmond in purgatory remembered by being thrown into a huge Electro magnetic room on the island?
Purgatory is another life until you remember the old one? then you're gone?

since the finale is probably going to fall short of expectations, and probably just be a ******ed time loop that ends with Jack waking up on the beach via Season 1, i'd go with answers.

so close. put the the end being the same shot as the pilot is good story telling, since it's ultimately Jack's story

replace "time loop" with purgatory and I win.

I agree the island wasn't purgatory...the flash sideways was. So what was the island?

Everyone seems to be overlooking the fact that Desmond seemed to go back and forth between the island and the "flash-sideways/purgatory/whatever." Does anyone have an explanation that doesn't conflict with current theories?

Then why did all of those people need to have the realizations? Why didn't they all just work together to make Jack have the realization?
