The OA (Spoilers) The OA (Spoilers)

Personally, I don't like endings that are too vague and where the interpretation is more on philosophical level rather than a solidified framework that give enough evidence to form at least an educative guess of what's going on for some kind of closure (yeah, wasn't a fan of how Lost did it.).

I can accept it in the occasional movie with an artistic angle and an ambiguous ending but a series better deliver some kind of resolution rather than just dangle a mysterious carrot for 8 hours.

If there is a second season that gives more background and some "answers", I'll be happy with this show.

Overall it was enjoyable and a good show to binge. The angel dance was a bit silly, though.

For me, it ends on a note of "Does it even matter if it was all real?". And I disagree that the five main characters didn't have any growth. I feel like the ending scene of them doing ridiculous stuff in a school cafeteria in front of tons of other people was a fine ending to their individual stories. On a related note, I enjoyed how the show seems to comment on cults and sects and what leads people to join them.
i still really liked the show, it just felt manipulative to leave so much unanswered. i dont want everything spelled out because i do agree with you that "does it matter if it was real" was more of the point. but her parents didnt really grow, there was no tie up with anything russian, or any real closure with the FBI storylines. so without that, if its a standalone, it just feels like they had these things there to fill time.

the more i think about it, the 5 did grow a little more than i initially thought, but its really just displayed in that last epilogue scene, and things that id rather see rather than just an afterward.

the producers commenting about it now just feels more like them saying "we have a secret and we're not telling you!" and its kind of obnoxious tbh.

Yeah, they just started doing synchronized modern dance in the middle of a mass shooting because that's totally what they would have done had they never met OA.

well, let's see:

steve - seems to be nicer cause he has a gf now? a little growth
french - seems to be...the same? just more accepting i guess?
buck - has another friend, so believes in him/herself, so some growth
jesse - seems to be about the same?
betty - definitely the most growth, standing up for kids

like i said, it's fine, it's just a little weak considering about 80% of the show was just exposition.

Grunching the whole thread but two episodes in and this is fantastic.

Enjoyed it a lot but obviously annoyed with them purposefully not answering any questions they presented during the entire show. People that think that's cool/artistic are bad and should feel bad

maybe i missed something but the books in her house were wrapped in her blue tiger sweater that she was wearing when she ran back to the school? did she have two? were they different sweaters? I thought it was evidence that FBI dude planted them but they just glossed over him being there

Got to episode 7 and it's very good imo, a few plot holes but lol Stockholm syndrome.

The ending was pretty weird, probably too clever by half, but overall I had a great time watching it. Not many shows like this around!

One thing that bothers me almost as much as the 'ending' is the plot line with the guy being sent away to military school.

So his dad arranges for him to be kidnapped and brought there, but no one seems to think it's a little strange that the next day he's back in school?

The parents had a change of heart after the meeting at the house and BBA told his parents she just spent $50k for his freedom.

Spoiler:
No matter how you paint it that narrative sucks

Can she read english? When she was 7, she lived in Russia and was blinded. Then she learned braille when she came to the United States and when she regained vision, she was captive for 7 years, so not time to learn to read. Suspicious she'd have all those books. Suspicious Naz was in her home uninvited as well, perhaps he put them there to discredit her.

Trying to nit up this show on **** like that is pretty antithetical to what it's about. Go watch Law and Order or something.

Naz possibly planting the books is not nitting it up, it's literally one of the most important questions the show wants you to think about going into next season

lol **** next season, I'm viewing this thing as it is. Next season is their problem.

so how important was that 'they have to be strong and flexible' requirement if they got the little kid taking testosterone, the out of shape stoner, and best of all, Phyllis from The Office?

of all the cringy dance moves, my vote for cringiest since it was so ridiculous that it really broke the immersion of the show and i just sort of looked around laughing at its silliness was the chest thump followed by arms spread wide in the obvious 'come at me bro' gesture.

I thought this show was excellent. Although I'm still somewhat unsure how I feel about the ending, looking forward to next season.

some random thoughts:

-I agree, that it seems possible Nas, or someone else, planted the books. Also Nas cam off way to perfect, similar to how Hap was when she first met him.
-I was listening to a podcast (The Vulture) where the guy felt the lead character Prairie (Brit Marling) could have been better cast. I thought this was silly, and that she was amazing, not to mention she co-created the show, lol.
-The scene after Prairie's NDE when Hap asked her what happened and about the noise he heard was a bit weird. How does he just link it to the rings of Saturn? Its seemed like a huge stretch.

Just watched 1st episode of s2 pretty solid, s1 was great outside of awful ending and if it avoids that I'm def looking forward to the rest of s2. Would watch Jason Isaacs read the newspaper though.

I have watched 2 episodes and think its solid also. IDK how awful the S1 ending is now since what they did actually worked, or at least seems to have worked 2 episodes in.
