Have only had time to watch two eps so far, but I read a lot of the reviews. They seem to say unanimously that s2 is miles ahead of s1 quality-wise. I think I liked s1 more than almost anyone so that's interesting. Personally I'd say after two eps that it's somewhat on par with s1.

A thought (marginal spoiler eps 1-2):

Spoiler:
I miss Carrillo.

Season 1 was great, but season 2 is even better.

Spoiler:
The ending makes it seem like they're keeping open the possibility of another season

Finished season 2 yesterday. I liked season one a lot more. Found it more interesting and compelling. Thought they could have done season 2 in half the episodes and dragged everything out to get it to 10 episodes. Don't get me wrong it was still outstanding! Plus the ending indicates we will have at least a 3rd season.

This is a really great show. I will never understand the mindset of guys like Escobar. Once you have billions why not go straight? But I guess it isn't about the money for these guys. It's more ego, power and control.

I mean he tried to with his politics didn't he? I had similiar thoughts with the Cali cartel. Like you got NYC, do you really need Miami too? You're basically printing money anyways. But I guess it's more about eat or get eaten so you gotta make a move when you can.

Watch the whole season.

Spoiler:
I liked S1 a little bit better, I reckon. While I guess S2 was technically "better" (less over the top, less annoying narration), I feel like S1 had stronger characters and better pairings. Peña and Murphy worked so much better as a pair than separated like this season. Carrillo was more interesting than Martinez (it's also pretty strange how apparently Carrillo's character was based on real-life Martinez?). Gustavo was awesome and there was no one particularly interesting/charismatic in Pablo's camp this season.

I still think this show would've been better if they had stretched the story a bit and had S1 cover a few years less to have a richer second and possibly third season.

Having that said it was still elite tv, one of the best show out there these days. Will gladly watch S3 too. What's really great about this show is that it never uses cliffhangers or similar cheap tricks, yet you always want to watch just one more episode because it's so damn addictive. Just really great tv all around.

Apparently the actor playing Pablo used a prosthetic belly during season 2. I thought it kinda looked fake in some of the scenes.

I'm surprised that they can't seem to quite make these look real. Woody Harrelson's in True Detective seemed slightly off at times too.

Another awesome season though.

Yay! Will be a challenge to pull it off without Wagner Moura's incredible presence, but I have quite a lot of faith in these guys.

Just finished season 2. Awesome show. Eps 1-7 were really strong. Last 3 dragged out a bit but finished strong.

So they'll be going after the Cali Cartel in season 3

Below is a decent documentary which includes Javier Pena's and Stephen Murphy's views about Pablo and the time frame of his rise and demise.

Semispoiler about a side character if you haven't seen all ten eps of s2:

Spoiler:
I was reading the news today and the irl Jairo's name popped up. Apparently he volunteer works in Medellin trying to get street kids to choose another future than crime. Was in Finnish so no point linking, but I assume this story must be somewhere in English too. He was one of Escobar's worst hitmans so pretty cool I guess. There are some vids on youtube where he's being interviewed too.
