One huuuuuuuuge problem though. The Robot group was trying to bring down this Evil Corp "for the people" by wiping out everyone's debt by somehow frying all their servers. Uhhhh no. As anyone who has ever taken a loan out knows there is always a piece of paper that is filed away with your signature on it. Sure, it might take some time to get that information, but it's still exists.
Nope, not any more. They scan and shred the original. Yes, I work for a financial institution. All documents are stored on disk and have the same legal standing as the original paper.
As for the show, it's my new Breaking Bad. I make sure to be in front of the tv Wednesday nights. Even though I hate hackers and would support a finger decapitation law if it were proposed.
Great show, only sad thing is that a predictable upcoming plot twist (fsociety boss is his imagination and really he is the boss of fsociety) makes the episodes until the twist is revealed a lot less interesting.
To me there is no doubt, it is 100% guaranteed boss dude isn't real. If it ends up not being the case they levelled us very well, with it being hinted so obviously and there being other things that are so obviously his imagination (like agents following the girl in the subway).
No one else cares but it really bothers me that they chose a Danish actress as the wife of Tyrell. Seems so unnecessary. Quite sure it was hinted that she was Swedish based on the maiden name in his password.
Also i can barely hear what she is saying!
I really hope the upcoming twist is that Mr Robot is real.
At this point the show, whilst good, looks like it's heading for a brick wall. It needs a time is a flat circle episode where everything clicks and it moves to another level and just confirming what most guessed between ep one and two isn't that.
The Mr Rabbit reveal worked in Utopia because it was obscured well. Mr Robot being a psychosis is pushed too hard in scenes like the bar.
The MrRobot isn't real theory got a lot stronger, but also a lot dumber, with the office/bar scene in this one.
It's one of those things where they aren't showing the intermediate scenes that demonstrate one way or the other, which is kind of a tell imo, but also makes it dumb. Like in the Sixth Sense, the scene where Bruce Willis rides a bus. It works as a scene, but that's because they didn't show him getting on the bus and not paying, they ddin't show anyone sitting down on him because only the kid can see him, stuff like that.
So Slater gets into and out of the office here, nobody notices him, nobody talks to him... so the presented scenes didn't resolve the question. But the unpresented scenes would've, one way or the other. We didn't see them leave the office and go to the bar and order the first appletini, but in theory Elliot did.
Best show right now. Soundtrack is really good too.
The only hole I thought of is, if Portia Doubleday's character had her Dad's info hacked. They are ahead of the game, why can't she just call her Dad and tell him to freeze the accounts/change the passwords before the hackers commit identify theft. They didn't think her boyfriend would tell her, so she has a head start to stop the damage.
Am I really off base there? I just think they aren't really handling this as neatly as they could be. When you're setting up a Sixth Sense/Fight Club/Beautiful Mind twist in 2015 I would hope that filmmakers would have tried to learn from those examples, tweak the formula a little. Instead it's pretty much exactly the same thing.
It's just lazy and derivative, and the thing about the show is that it's more than entertaining enough not to need it.
That episode was surreal. Between this, Hannibal and True Detective I'm starting to feel quite stupid when it comes to figuring out what is going on on TV shows. It's still interesting though. At least they aren't USAing it up so far, if anything they seem to be going in the opposite direction.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I was sincerely impressed by your analysis. They aren't handling it well if everyone knows what's up but I doubt many people picked up on the absence of transition scenes.
I could see someone thinking that discussion of how a twist that hasn't happened yet isn't being done well is overly nitty, "it's just a TV show".
But I think that's why it seems worse in this than it does in movies, because in movies the fake character gets introduced and exposed in the space of like an hour, you don't have time to sit and think.
If the Sixth Sense was 4 hours long you'd start wondering "why has nobody except the kid talked to Willis?" before the actual reveal. Especially if during that fourth hour the movie had a really boring and trippy dream sequence.

OTOH, I was being sarcastic. Mr. Robot is 100% in Elliot's mind. Nobody just walks into the work area of an internet security firm and sits on the desk at somebody's work station. Reception makes the visitor wait until Elliot comes out and brings him in (and that's only IF they even allow escorted randoms in the office).
A female coworker walks by not 2 feet from the stranger and never even glances at the guy sitting there not dressed like he belongs.
The theory did not get stronger with that scene. It was confirmed with that scene and the bar scene reinforces that. Note the bartender looked at Elliot askance, like he was thinking "this guy's a nut".
You don't need any intermediate scenes to confirm this. The inference should be automatic.
Why would this blonde girl knowingly upload malicious software to a cyber security firm to avoid IDENTITY THEFT. That whole storyline just seems really really silly to me.

Did not happen, but people speaking to Elliot sometimes looked to the side, I.E where mr robot stood so it kinda looked like it, which I guess was the point
EDIT: ^^ hmm, I guess I have to tripple check. Mr Robot have never spoken with someone else whithout Eliot being around tho
