If the therapist isn't real, her married boyfriend isn't real, so how does he get the dog?

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
Remove the therapist as married guy's girlfriend and you'll see how. He went after him for more than just her, but yeah, something has to be real. I can't remember, is he in forced therapy, or is it voluntary? If it's voluntary, I just don't see his character doing that, which should be a "reality" clue.
I do think the creator is just enough of an a-hole in real life that he could be totally effing with the audience for his personal amusement.

Understood, but if it's all in his mind it becomes less a Fight Club vibe and more a St. Elsewhere vibe.
For me, the jury is still out on most of the what's real and what isn't debate, but I'm convinced the trashing of his equipment was all in his mind.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
I don't feel like going in and analyzing stuff (wouldn't mean anything without an anchor anyway), but my gut would say if you're right that the clue would be to look for things with time jumps and jump cuts as the delineation between real and fake (if any of it is real). I think the most obviously "fake" scene was the one at the start of episode 2, since everyone's faces were blurred at the start of it (meaning, in my opinion, he hadn't constructed the reality yet).

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
The MrRobot isn't real theory got a lot stronger, but also a lot dumber, with the office/bar scene in this one.
It's one of those things where they aren't showing the intermediate scenes that demonstrate one way or the other, which is kind of a tell imo, but also makes it dumb. Like in the Sixth Sense, the scene where Bruce Willis rides a bus. It works as a scene, but that's because they didn't show him getting on the bus and not paying, they ddin't show anyone sitting down on him because only the kid can see him, stuff like that.
So Slater gets into and out of the office here, nobody notices him, nobody talks to him... so the presented scenes didn't resolve the question. But the unpresented scenes would've, one way or the other. We didn't see them leave the office and go to the bar and order the first appletini, but in theory Elliot did.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
Ripping off Fight Club's plot and and a scene from American Psycho makes me think this show should credit "every douchebag's dorm room from 2002" for story inspiration.

I liked the episode it humanized Elliot
Has there ever been a gay sex scene that graphic on a normal (non HBO, Showtime, etc) cable channel?

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
F society has to at least be real because his neighbor acknowlwdged the girl no?
I think that was the first time weve seen another member acknowledged by an established character.
Not sure on Slater being real or not yet, id lean towards no.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
Well, if fsociety isn't real, the entire show is fake, which would be unacceptable at a very basic level.
Mr Robot being the Tyler Durden to The Narrator as the only element of unreality fits what we have seen so far, but echhhh. It is a little sad to steal both the major plot of "regular joe gets wrapped up in anarchic quasi-terrorism" and the storytelling gimmick of "regular joe was actually, TWIST, the leader of the terrorist group the whole time, the perceived leader was an aspect of his split personality" from the same movie.

The show has been pretty smart, I feel like whatever happens will have to subvert the Fight Club tropes it references somehow. It'll be bad if it ends up being a straight up rip-off. I like the American Psycho villain so far, his opening scene was good.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
pretty disappointed in how this has developed. I'm not interested in playing the "whos real and who isnt" game, but mr robot being real would be even worse after those ridiculous scenes tonight
feel like it could have been something good just played straight-up

Great episode, I'm now totally on board. The use of Steal My Sunshine was genius. Christian Slater is fake, yes.

Hah, interesting, the pregnant wife is a Danish model who's been on the cover of Playboy. She talks Danish in the show, so I'm not sure if she's supposed to be Swedish like the Evil Corp guy.

Loving the show. Understand the feeling that Mr Robot is not real. May be a red Herring though.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
I can see Mr Robot guy being Elliott ala Fight Club but the other hackers are real people. At least they are seen by other people.
In some sense it would be kinda a let down if this turns out to be Fight Club with Puters. I hope the show is smarter then that.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
I am loving this show so far too. Episode 2 was the weakest imo, but they all have been pretty good.
I can relate to Elliot and how he detaches himself from society. I generally hate society for the most part myself... I wish I was in the irl version of Last Man On Earth (that show was disappointing tho.. hopefully this stays strong all season long.) I LOLed at the line "****, I'm going to have to let him hug me aren't I?"
Also, there was a poker reference... Mr. Robot - "Dealer's Choice"
I personally am not sure if anyone or everyone is real or not.. I honestly don't really care at this point, just interested to see how the show develops. I don't get the "blah another fight club" camp. This show is pretty different even if there happens to be some similarities.

Another memorable quote from Ep 3..
"Elliot, how long have you and Sheila been together?"
"Um.. Uh.. Um........ just today."

In what reality is an autistic savant a "regular joe"?
OTOH, I agree that most of what we see is real, just clouded by Elliot's perception.
Mr. Robot, however, is not real.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot
Love this show so far as well. Clearly some rip offs from Fight Club. The voiceovers from Elliot seem rather similar to the voiceovers we get from the Narrator in Fight Club (Edward Norton). I loved that movie anyway.
I think it's refreshing that there is a main character of a show that still is clearly flawed socially, yet is still very likeable despite his weird exterior.
