Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

I think it has to be close to something similar with what Josh said. Hannibal's issue was that it was an episode in extremely poor taste (from what I heard) that also was about to be shown right when that tragedy happened. Except in that case, the episode was essentially destroyed from memory (they decided to never air it, and I have no idea whether it was in the Netflix or Amazon, whoever has that show's season 1 version). Since it was just a filler episode, it wasn't a problem to nuke it.

This is the season finale of a show, so this won't just disappear no matter how poor taste it is. At some point the content creators have to step back and evaluate whether their content could be a problem to begin with. I've seen several other shows in recent years have "on the nose" type storylines by accident (Elementary had an episode like that), but usually the band just plays on. I personally think it's more of a slap in the face to just play it next week than to not play it today. Response won't be better in that short period of time, as it's still too soon. So, really you either need to push it to online, and bury it...or you need to delay it for several more weeks...or you just air it as is on the day and say sorry for the coincidence, but the band plays on.

I think just about everyone knows that the Super Bowl wouldn't be canceled or postponed if a guy blew himself up on a replica miniature of that Super Bowl's stadium while writing a 27 page diatribe on Roger Goodell's unfair punishment system. They'd have the game in spite of. In the grand scheme of things, this show has an absolutely tiny audience, and to me, it's nonsensical that they'd move it. One thing it does do is generate PR, but there's no way USA would try to capitalize on something like that right? I'm on the fence about whether this was the right move. It might have been the right move, but it's been executed very poorly, in my opinion.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

I suspect it's just a POV shot of a shooting, but yeah. Forget about the healing thing, just think about it as art.

If you watched, in 2 hours, a scene that reminded you of the Virginia shooting, that's all you'd think about for the rest of the ****ing episode.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

Yeah, I think it's certainly going to be a POV something. I haven't watched any of the videos related to the shooting and have no interest in watching them. It's a pretty small minority who is willing to watch that, but this show's target audience might be in that minority. So, from a standpoint of distraction, sure that could be an issue, but it does bring up the "tastefulness" of including something like that in the show to begin with, if it can evoke that kind of response.

I think the best example of a major event happening that would distract you for many years in TV shows and movies was 9/11. It was really hard to see the towers standing in reruns, but I always saw it as a nice remembrance of history (any time I saw them I'd say "Twin Towers"). Things got so ridiculous after 9/11 that they painted the towers out of movies that hadn't been completed yet. There was a big scene in Ocean's 11 that was completely removed because of that. Again, the strategy for this kind of thing hasn't been delaying it, it's been burying it or revising the problematic scene.

A movie like Arlington Road never would have been after 9/11, and a movie like The Siege that got it so comically wrong over a couple of buses being blown up seems so incredibly tone deaf to reality. Again, I seriously doubt that movie would have been made post 9/11 either. There's a point when some of the studios started to realize that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to fear monger. Arlington Road was a brilliant movie, and it's good that it was made before then, but I don't even know what purpose The Siege ultimately served. It wouldn't be long until shows like 24 really capitalized off of that fear as opposed to running away from it.

Remembering the distant past, a great example of how much different the world is was the woman at the airport seeing her kids come off the tarmac in Show Me a Hero. I'm a bit nostalgic for getting to meet your party at the gate.

IIRC Tyrell walked in with a bunch of other Evil Corp people, but Tyrell and Elliott did have a brief solo conversation (they bond over running Linux and other nerd stuff ). The way they interracted at that time made it seem like they were meeting for the first time, but, if Elliott could forget his own sister, he could obviously forget a previous relationship w/ Tyrell.

Totally PISSED!

When did this show get holier then thou morality?? The Show is about the dark side of life/reality/mental illness. Violence isn't glorified at all. HBO/Showtime would have never pulled the episode.

I'm thinking someone goes postal at AllSafe -how ironic?

I think I'm more pissed that we all know how a major shocking scene is going to play out. Would have rather them just made some bull**** reason up and pushed it back a week.

Wow just started watching and thought they were doing some weird double take because they are airing last week's episode.

Classy of them.

They also changed one of the scenes in the spider man movie that released around that time as well as marketing material that featured the towers in promo posters, In the scene spiderman spins a web between the 2 towers to stop a helicopter.

Man, it would definitely be hard to suspend disbelief for that scene in the wake of that.

My mistake, I did some googling, it was a teaser trailer for the spiderman movie that was pulled, the scene wasn't going to be in the movie. You can see the original trailer at this link: http://thecomicscode.******.com/twin...pider-man.html

I can understand waiting a week, although it sucks to know spoilers of an upcoming scene

Any chance that the one week delay is just to reshoot/re-edit the one scene?

All,

Remember to double check your DVRs next week - if they list it as the finale, DVRs may not pick it up since listings prob didn't get updated this week.

I sure hope they're not changing anything, and just giving people the "time to grieve". I personally don't think it's necessary, especially for just one week, it's a bit ridiculous, but oh well. Nothing I can do.

If re-shooting/edit one scene from POV shooting to a normal shooting scene, I imagine won't change the flow of the show.

Very unlikely unless it was just a psychotically tasteless scene. There are still standards and practices on cable, so it probably wouldn't make it in the show if it were that bad. As has already been discussed, it's probably going to be some POV violence using a GoPro. That's the only thing that makes any sense.

That's basically what I'm saying. Change the one scene with POV shooting.

It's worse to revise history, as it might not be the same intent of the scene. I really hate when stuff like that happens.

My channel guide showed NCIS in the Mr Robot time slot for next week. Last night my DVR recorded 1 hr 15 minutes for the final episode. Plan accordingly.
