Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

Do you think they would be that derivative? I mean USA does actually know the planned arc of the show, and I find it hard to believe they'd get on board that idea. They've had a series of failures since their best shows left, and the last thing they want to do is majorly alienate an audience that is craving something that seems so different than their normal stuff. This isn't a network show, and it isn't a Syfy show, so USA is where it ended up and they have been pumping the s*** out of it. It's their best hope at any real prestige right now, and it still has a very limited audience

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

Look, he may very well be real, but there is absolutely no reason to believe that Mr Robot may not be real from the scenes to date.

Him not being real also won't take away from how good the show is.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

I agree it doesn't matter if he's real, I just hate it as a lingering question (and it doesn't enhance or detract from the show). The further they go without going back down that same road, the audience will have no choice but to accept he's real.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

But is the average Joe from the public aware that he may not be real? Like you say it's USA network and a reveal may actually be a surprise to many who aren't sitting on forums chatting about it.

I mean I read it first before I had realized that he may not be real. Admittedly it was back after episode 1. Who knows how long it would have taken for me to catch on that it was a possibility (if at all).

With only 3 episodes left, they really need to start tying all these plot lines together into some sort of coherent narrative. I will be very disappointed if the season ends as nothing more than the sum of its parts.

How do you explain the episode where Elliot walks back to his desk and Mr. Robot is sitting there?

If Mr. Robot is real, we can't suspend disbelief, because no internet security firm allows a non-employee to be alone in the work area.

A coworker walks less than 2 feet from Mr. Robot yet never even hesitates at this inappropriately dressed stranger in their midst.

Anybody who does even a minimal amount of research knows this never happens in the real world.

If the creator is as creepy as you say, can't you buy in to the concept that the main character of Elliot has a 2nd personality and the Mr. Robot character is the representation of that personality?

When Elliot and Mr. Robot talk, it's the internal conflict between the personalities. When Mr. Robot confronts Romero, that's that personality at the forefront.

Tyrell could get promoted to CTO and you could cliff hang many plot lines at the end. This could be a long storyline like Game of Thrones it doesn't have to end clean.

All,

I wonder what the guy who came up with this show is like. Like I wonder if he would need to be a kinda weird creepy guy to come up with some of this stuff or if he's like a super nice guy with a wild imagination.

My guess is he's a nice normal guy with a crazy imagination. It's very unlikely he's creepy or weird in real life.

GoT was way more connected than this. While the storylines weren't connected in the immediate sense, they still had the same overarching goal: control of the Iron Throne, while showing the real looming threat above the Wall for whoever emerges victorious.

We haven't got that yet here. The only connection between Elliott and Tyrell is a chance encounter at All Safe, followed by that job offer, and then finally the chance encounter at Steel Mountain. Right now, their goals aren't aligned or in conflict. Tyrell wants to climb the corporate ladder, Elliott/fsociety doesn't care who happens to be in charge of Evil Corp, he's just another worker bee for the corporation as far as they're concerned. Their goals are bigger than any one executive. If Tyrell is CTO, great. If the other guy is CTO, also great. Beating up the homeless/killing the wife, all that psychopath stuff is completely disconnected at the moment.

The Vera stuff also seems separate at the moment, a distraction. It's obvious a big thing for Elliott's state of mind, but there's close to zero crossover between it and fsociety besides Darlene helping out a little.

The one plot line that does seem likely to converge is Angela's. If she testifies to the improper chain of custody on that file, that puts her in direct conflict with Elliott and fsociety since they doctored the file to implicate Colby.

My concern is that the gimmick is poorly done. I could see the gimmick being inserted, USA getting mad and telling him to go a different direction. If there's never a return to that in a realistic way (or it goes poorly), the latter may be involved.

I'm not really having a problem suspending disbelief either way, because I don't think it's integral to the show's ability to work.

Right now, I think the biggest problem in the show is the shoehorned Angela/old CTO story. I'm sure we'll soon learn why it's there, but it really often derails momentum the show has. Angela and Elliott work best when together, and these two people who were such great friends all of a sudden don't talk anymore? I thought any falling out they had was pretty minimal. It's just a really odd way of getting the two characters together. The collateral damage of her idiotic stunt is ridiculous unless she doesn't follow through with it.

My assessment is definitely that it was not a chance encounter. He knew what Elliott was doing, and got enough of a heads up to both stop the op, and get there when or before Elliott arrived. Anything else falls into the land of coincidence, and there's no such thing as coincidence.

Lbr,

She was kinda famous at seven!

From wiki: Upon singing "Happy Birthday" in all twelve keys,[12] Rossum was welcomed to join the Metropolitan Opera Children's Chorus by chorus director Elena Doria[13] at the age of seven.

Not jealous at all, I'd describe it as amazed, impressed, and didn't know he had it in him (people who were at where he was when I knew him at his age almost never make it like this...so he's technically a giant awesome aberration). That his show features these types of characters does not surprise me at all. It just shows how much of a creator's personality can end up on screen in a show like this.

He did an AMA on Reddit when the show first came out.

https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/commen...f=search_posts

Basically describes himself as a bit of a computer geek who has been diagnosed with both OCD and social anxiety disorder.

I witnessed neither OCD nor social anxiety. So I call false. People with social anxiety also typically don't end up with Emmy Rossum.

She previously dated Adam Duritz, who has severe social anxiety.

Re: New Show- Mr. Robot

There's not much to tell. He had a "vibe". The best way I can describe that vibe is that the disdain the Elliott character has for people is pretty much exactly the vibe he gave off to me (a constant sizing people up type thing, and the guy is really tall). That kind of vibe makes you want to have short interactions with the person (I only occasionally interacted with him). He had an odd air of ego, condescension, and sarcasm all wrapped in one. All of those aspects of his personality are in the show, and they're a big reason why the show is so interesting. It's much less interesting in a real life person, so this was only said for color.

It's not hard to find out the job he was doing before he got the show (and the movie he wrote/directed prior), and how unlikely this job is to turn into where he is now at the age he was doing that job so soon after. That's more likely for someone passing through in their early 20s, not early 30s. It is an insanely impressive (exceptionally rare) accomplishment, and I am very proud of him for it. It was jaw dropping seeing his name when I put the show on. But I'll stop bringing it up, even though certain scenes play really interesting when you actually know the guy (window into the soul type of thing).
