I like the show a lot, but it's not an all-time great. 'One of the best shows on TV while it was on' is probably more accurate.

IMO S3 was the best, and S1/S4 are also quite good.

I’ve always known that I watch tv differently but for me Mr Robot is definitely one of the 20-25 best shows of all time. Very entertaining show.

I'm also rating it higher than some people itt. Some reasons why: a) its creative vision is as bold as anything I've ever seen on TV and it's one of the most ambitious shows ever to air on TV imo, b) phenomenal casting and acting all around with Rami Malek giving easily one of the best performances of the decade but also really amazing jobs done by the actors/actresses who play Darlene, Dom, and Whiterose, c) its LOOK is incredible and its aesthetic identity is really cool and original, d) the finale wrapped things up perfectly and the show never outlived its welcome, e) both the original music and the use of certain songs (FKA Twigs in s1, Phil Collins in s2, for example) are elite. In sum, it's a bold, very original show made even better by multiple aspects of technical genius and some superb performances and fascinating characters.

This. For me it is a top 5 show all time and arguably #1, no exaggeration Love the story, tune, narration, but must of all the production with stuff like the episode 5 single camera long shot in season 3 :

The soundtrack is equally GOAT as is Malek, of course

the cinematography in season 1 was widely considered groundbreaking, especially for a show on the USA network. esmail using the entire screen to frame his characters & backgrounds was unparalleled at that point of TV.

esmail considers season 1 episode 4's dream sequence to be one of his favorite scenes, because there is so much subtext going on, and it is shot beautifully.

I also rate it very highly on my list of favorite shows of all time (probably top 10), outside of everything that has already been mentioned, I think the show also excelled in:

1/ The use of a mentally ill drug addicted unreliable main character / narrator that the viewer sympathized with and wanted to understand, despite his views and actions often being very extreme.

2/ Very unusual and original theme with hackers taking the spotlight while (according to everything I've read) remaining realistic to what's actually possible in reality most of the time.

3/ The show successfully remaining a mystery show through its entire run without ever feeling like reveals/answers remained hidden for too long, and the reveals/answers never feeling like they made no sense. It's also very rare that a show like this reaches a satisfying conclusion after a running time of 4 seasons, which Mr. Robot was successfully able to deliver (according to at least the majority of fans).

I also come up short with thinking of shows who had better cinematography than Mr. Robot, but maybe other people disagree with that.

The mystery of white rose’s machine was strung along for three years. And got no resolution

Disagree. Don't know if spoiler tags are necessary anymore but:

Spoiler:
It was a great red herring to set up the reveal of The Mastermind personality having been the identity of Elliot that we've been following all along and whose birth and death bookend the show. What we think is the machine having served its purpose is actually The Mastermind being forced to finally confront the loop in which the real Elliot has been a prisoner. Not to suggest that you don't realize that, but this kind of subterfuge revealed all of this in a particularly effective way. We don't know if the machine would have worked if not for Elliot's intervention, but that is ultimately pretty insignificant compared to the fact that the Elliot we have known and loved is not the "real" Elliot.

Also, great to see all of the additional love posted in here. The show has earned it.

Love the show but still wondering about some of it.

Angela seemed to think the machine would work for some reason. Also, What she experienced when being captured by White Rose with the little girl still seems really weird and never explained unless i missed something. Brainwashing?

Since Angela was a close childhood friend of Elliot she should know about Elliot's illness, but she didn't show that to the viewers. When Elliot became more Mastermind Elliot in S1 E4, neither Darlene nor Angela seemed to notice a change in the early episodes until S1 E8 when Elliot kisses Darlene. So Mastermind Elliot maybe acts similar to True Elliot. Critical S1 scene:

You basically have to believe that white rose drugged Angela or inflicted severe brain damage on her

Dark Army was just a cult formed around White Rose, a major part of the cult was that WR was building a time travel/alternate timeline/... machine. Doesn't matter what machine it was, it was a hoax.

Angela was just brainwashed into the cult. Why is that so hard to believe? Intelligent people get brainwashed into cults all the time.

I'll agree the final WR scene could've been a bit more clear, but I think the ending is fine?

The machine didn't work and was never going to work because in its current form it was nothing more than a hoax. Maybe WR could at some point throw enough money and intelligence at the machine to get it to work, but she wasn't close. With the Deus Group being doxed and a major part of its money being stolen, Dark Army was about to collapse. WR commits suicide since she has no other options left.

Only thing I'm not sure of is why WR decided to go to the power plant and whether her plan was to actually blow it up or not. But I'm fine with that being up for interpretation.

Watch the scenes of angela after she saw white rose. She wasnt a believer. She was mentally handicapped

White Rose is leveraging herself to the extreme just for a hoax?
If it’s just a hoax to her, she doesnt make all the sacrifices she does to maintain it and ultimately move it across continents

i think the machine worked. angela was a rational person. whiterose was the richest person in the world (of any gender).

so its either they were both fooled and were willing to die because of how dumb they were (+ all dark army who killed themselves without hesitation in 1 second)

or

elliot turned off the machine when he chose to stay with his friend in the computer game

I felt it was left intentionally unresolved whether it did work, was about to work, or didn't work

This. I don’t think there is any support for the “hoax” take tbh.

OK, how about this: WR really thought his machine could work, if completed and moved to the Congo. DA people were really convinced the machine could work. It takes a true believer to unhesitatingly eat a bullet like they all do.

As played, WR was otherwise out of options, and knew was probably going to cause a meltdown and not work. It was either a hail mary, or an FU to everyone, but she left the fate of the reactor in Elliot's hands for some reason.

All told, i just think they could have put more thought and care into wrapping that part of the show up. I think there are logical avenues to follow and 13 episodes is a lot of screen time. The episode that started with White Rose’s back story probably should have been a WR episode. I can see why they might not want to spoonfeed the audience but we really deserved more from a mystery that had been building from S2

Just finished this after binging all 4 seasons over the past 2 weeks. At least it finally inspired me to get a password protector after seeing how easy it was to hack all these people
