loved the odes to fight club (the boardroom scene staring at the buildings), 2001 a space odyssey (the family watching the movie), and lost (beginning and final shot on jack's eyeball)
I see that there’s value in saving the Shaymalan twist for the end, but if im economizing the final 13 hours of the series, you have to reveal that Elliot is an alternate personality way sooner. There was a lot of meat left on that bone. Elliot grappling with his status and struggling for control. Instead we wrapped a fascinating quandry up in 9 minutes and we had a lot of filler throughout the season
Was afraid during the whole series finale because it seemed Esmail was taking it to weird places... Loved when the actual reveals came through.
Amazing final episode. I'm curious how much stuff just seems like "random filler stuff that is never properly addressed" on a rewatch. There's definetely some, I'm curious whether it's a lot.
I don't necessarily think it would necessarily hurt the overal quality if there is a lot of it, if there's not too much stuff that doesn't make any sense that's fine.
I'll definetely start a rewatch soon. If it holds up as well as I'm currently picturing it in my head, this will be a top 5 dramas of all time show for me personally.
Love the series and the ending but still wondering:
Spoiler:
So, is the only time we see the true real world in four seasons of the show is in the hospital room in the finale? Is Darlene the only character that we see in her real world true image? Since she seems to know the storyline, the hospital bed version of Elliot apparently has been telling her this entire four season fantasy story that we watched and she has humored him but she knew it wasn't real, right? The very ending is that the true Elliot, who we don't really see, will now shake off his fantasies and recover to his real world self ... we viewers could even be him.

Elliot has DID. First split occurred when he jumped out the window. We see the real world the entire time. We just never see the host Elliot, just the mastermind (our elliot), the protector (mr. robot), the persecutor (mother), and then the inner child (elliot's younger self).
Real world Krista never knew host elliot, just mastermind and MR. Darlene was kept out of the loop world so host elliot would stay trapped in the loop easier (she is his strongest connection to the real world.) Elliot slipped into loop world during s01e04 and the morphine withdrawal. It's the same scene in the arcade where we see Angela in the wedding dress, telling him he's not the real elliot and is only 2 months old. Even the same song plays both times:
TL;DR: the real world was real, the characters were real, the only one who truly knew elliot wasn't really elliot was darlene after elliot tried to kiss her back in season 1. this is why earlier in the season the other personalities in the boardroom said that darlene was the key to saving elliot.
I have only been able to read parts of this never ending thread and rightfully so. Long time fan and had a tiny bit to do with the start of the pre-production side. This last season has definitely been quite the roller coaster like the show, with some episodes better than others. But starting with 4.11 and now with the last 2, something really clicked internally that has made me more emotional than any show/movie has in awhile. Partially identifying with aspects of the character and storyline, mental health issues, and just pure timing - it hit me harder than I expected. Was wondering if anyone else had similar thoughts or issues...
So whiterose is this genius Mastermind that builds this machine and tons of people want to stop her from moving it to Africa... But it's all BS and whiterose is just kind of dumb?
I think the best cop out is that it wouldve “worked” if they got it to the Congo.
Not enough energy in Washington but she was throwing a hail mary. (Which literally doesnt make sense why she would suicide)
hey guys about to get done with season1. I think its a super solid show, but did I come in with high expectations. reddit and a lot of you said its one of the all time greats. everyone on the internet seems to rave about it.
I think its good. but thats it, do I need to give it more time or what? im gonna watch it regardless but was expecting abit more oomph or something
S1 is probably the best I think. it sounds like you need to adjust your expectations - most people wouldn’t classify this as one of the all time great shows.
After S1 the show was heading in top 10 direction, but the first half of S2 was real bad imo but it definitely gets back going after that. Its probably around a top 15 show.
