Absolutely was expecting a finale with him dead, glad they didn't though.

In any case I thought the finale lacked poignancy or just some kind of meaningful ending. Season 2 finale had this in spades.

I'm probably being too harsh, all in all I loved this show and hope Scott has kept Ray alive for the follow up blockbuster movie. ;]
I would bet a lot of money they had no idea who he was and just figured he was some random taxi driver they could bully/scare.

hard to imagine they'd be that ****ing stupid if they knew who he was.

I’m guessing Ray walked away bc Freddy told the truth.
ya I got the feeling he let him live cuz he just immediately confessed to his part in setting him up didn't try and bullshit him and just said hey I'm sorry I made a mistake and they have a lot of history.

had he lied or tried to shirk his guilt or make excuses etc I doubt he lives.

also I think to some extent ray really wanted a reason not to kill him and we know from season 1 finale and how he let the guy go (same guy who he partnered up with after and was the guy who died in the shootout with him) that just cuz u end up on the other side of him at one point its not an automatic death sentence he understands how the business works and what ppl are some times forced to do which is one of my fav things about him.

I loved the show from the 1st episode but man it went to another level in the season 1 finale because of that final interaction with the heavy who he let live and who ended up becoming a close associate (same guy who died in the finale).

it's so much better than a one dimensional character who just kills everyone and anyone who comes up against him in any way.
adds a ton of depth and realism.

Good explanation, rbk, thanks.

Now that you mention it, I think I recall his shootout partner saying something like "it's business, not personal" early on, and that theme being in a few other places.

just finished season finale thought it was perfect, the 2 guys in the car i think are 2 random wannabies and have no idea they just got into the grim reapers taxi. Ray is seriously smart even in that situation he would have a pen or something and stab them to death. RIP younguns

The bit with his friend near the end i think it was more a "im not angry, im just disappointed in you" type things, he says to him you coulda tipped me off, the friend says yeah i couldve, i made a mistake...
Ray says it wasnt a mistake...friend says ye it was....Ray says i'm the one who made a mistake. Basically cutting him off. Probably scarier in the long run for the guy ha.

Think positive. Maybe Ray ends up mentoring these two guys, and their exploits are the next show.

Thanks, Pokerlogist, I also didn't know it was on youtube. Watched last night. I'll spoiler since a lot probably haven't seen it.

Spoiler:

Video got pixellated quite often. Also, the video and audio were out of sync. Not sure if it's something wrong with my internet connection, but I felt that was on purpose to try to give the film a more authentic, gritty feel. I found that distracting.

Also seemed very quiet. Turned up the audio on my laptop and on youtube all the way, in the quiet basement, still had a little trouble with some of the dialog.

Of course, not as good as the TV show. As it was a first effort, totally understandable.
I'd say worth a watch for fans of the show, but not something that's in "wow, you really need to watch this to complete the story" category.

The movie was clunky at best and played older than 2005. That being said, it gave us a great tv show years later and achieved greatness

I don't think Ray would be morally fine mentoring these idiots.

What a great show, good end but damn did it have to

Spoiler:
i think the two guys who got in the taxi were hitmen hired to kill ray. that's why the one in the back said "a little of this, a little of that.

A) who's left to hire ppl to kill ray? and why would anyone want to now that he's out of the game? u hire two incompetent clowns to piss him off and make him want to come back for revenge? that makes zero sense and you only see that in some dumb action movie this show is smarter/more realistic than that.

B) if they were hired to kill him they would never have gone about things as ass backwards as they did they would have been told just who it is they were going up against and no shot they go at him like that it makes no sense.

the only thing that makes any sense is they were 2 random hoodlums who thought they were strong arming some rando clueless taxi driver who would shake in his boots at how badass they were.

the whole series is filled with countless people who want to kill ray. and they aren't the smartest, most competent people

ray rarely has any dealings with people who are competent

I liked the ending. To me too it seemed obvious that they were just random guys looking for trouble, not hitmen. Tbh not sure how you could possibly think they were hitmen.

What was the method Ray used to set the first guy with a shotgun on fire? I was a little tired when I watched it, but to me it seemed like he was shown noticing something and realizing he can use it, but was it shown what it was? If it wasn't, that's incredibly lazy writing.

All in all, what a great show.

pretty sure it wasn't shown what he used to light the guy on fire, or how he lit him on fire.

it didn't come across as lazy writing to me though.

also, it might have been just taken out in editing for time. shows usually/always take out some bits to shorten the show

ok so look, ray is a hitman right?

in the motel when zoe asks ray what he does for a living, ray says "a little bit of this, a little bit of that"

ray asks the guy what he does, and the guy says "a little bit of this, a little bit of that"

not sure in US but this is a very common answer in the UK and probably Aus

anyone who is on the other side of the law or slightly shady would probably use that line it doesn't mean hitman.

i highly doubt them 2 are hitmen, if they were sent to kill Ray, they would either have been told that Ray is the magician or at least been told that Ray is not to be f**ked with and to do it quick and smart.

To get into a taxi with what seems aussies elite hitman and to give him a code "a little bit of this, a little bit of that" and then to make him drive down a country lane .....no a bit further....just a bit further....someone could die tonight.....is not a smart way to kill anyone let alone Ray the magician

it would more likely go down like

cab arrives, 2 guys walk towards rays cab and bang. fade to black.

im rewatching the scene in the house

he picks up the hammer....spots the huge cleaver...then spots something higher up like on top of the kitchen cupboards level. So maybe its flame thrower haha im guessing aerosol can or something but it doesn't show it.

i totally concede it's very likely they were not hitmen. but the argument that they aren't hitmen cuz they are doing it wrong it is is a terrible argument. the show is full of incompetent criminals.
