I've never seen Aziz in anything except Parks&Rec, and he annoyed the bejesus out of me in that show (and I loved P&R). So I was very hesitant to give this a shot, but randomly started watching it a few days ago. I was positively surprised, I'd give this show a pretty solid rating. I think I'm 6 episodes in and so far the only thing that really annoys me is that the show is so very Louie-y, except not as good (Louie is in my all-time top5 shows). If I hadn't seen Louie, I think I'd rate Master Of None very highly, but now I just can't get rid of that comparison no matter how hard I try. I don't mean to say that it's a cheap copy or anything, and I think there's more than enough room in the world of tv shows for both of these to exist, just that from a purely personal standpoint I can't seem to get over it. Still it's a pretty great show with its heart in the right place.

Awesome news! I was sure we wouldn't see S3 since Aziz had that sexual harassment drama

I can barely think of 5 Netflix shows that I've watched.

Love- best thing they've made
Bojack- top tier show
Master of None- really solid
Aunty Donna- way too intense to watch more than an ep at a time
Lillyhammer- gave up before finishing first season, would rather just rewatch Sopranos

Sheesh, I'll probably rewatch and mull this one over, but first reaction is that season 3 was pretty close to a masterpiece.

Feels kind of Linklateresque what Aziz is doing here, the show just continuously grows up. Season 1 = mid-late 20s, screwing around in mostly casual relationships. Season 2 = late 20s-early 30s, seeking to settle down into something more meaningful. Season 3 = mid-late 30s, really having to make some tough adult decisions.

Watched the whole thing. Stellar directing and dialogue throughout, and the last two eps were excellent. The first three I thought were just a little too slow. I like a slow burn and I understand that they wanted to underline the mundane farm life not suiting the characters with the long still shots and long silences, but I just wasn't completely engaged. If the actress playing Alicia weren't so great, it would have been a struggle to get through at times. I'm the exact same age as the characters in the show, am in the same profession with extremely similar problems to one of them, and thematically this should hit as close to home as possible, but I was still left a little bit cold after the first three eps. Could've used a quick Eric Wareheim cameo for comedic relief or a quick departure from the farm for a change of pace, as it was starting to feel a little bit claustrophobic being stuck in there (I'd say more than the intended effect).

The last two eps really were rewarding though. I see people raving about #4, but the finale was actually my favorite. Really clever writing, and the way they wrapped this thing up was nothing short of phenomenal.

Overall this show was a solid 4.5/5 for me with three different, very strong seasons. Props to Aziz on a solid comeback. Beach House is also my favorite band, so Aziz clearly has a great taste in music.

Rewatched S1 and just started S2, wow this show was wayyyy better than I remembered. Really good stuff all around. I wonder how much influence Harris Wittels (RIP) had over season 1. Some of the jokes and the general warm-hearted vibe felt very similar to his work in Parks & Rec, and there was a bit of a change in tone on s2 when he was no longer involved.

I thought S2 was way way better than S1, eager to hear if you feel the same way after this rewatch Chuck.

1>2>>>>>3 for me.

I remember thinking 2>1 upon first watch, but I think I got blindsided by the awesome Italy stuff. S2 just wasn't really all that coherent as a whole.

S1 had its flaws (being a little too woke, Dev constantly being offended by something, too many similarities to Louie), but it was really solid overall. S2 started out great (first 2-3 eps in Italy), then they had a run of extremely random eps that had nothing to do with anything (the ep where they follow people around and the movie with the twist at the end, the thanksgiving / coming out ep that was great on its own but just seemed really random in the context of the whole show, etc) and then they pulled Francesca back into the show out of nowhere. There was no chemistry between them at any point, Dev was friendzoned super hard for the first moment, and the whole "romance" thing just felt really fake and forced.

Lots of stuff to like there for sure and I still rate S2 quite high compared to most shows, but it was just a little too over the place and the season-long story arc of trying to find an emotional connection with someone would've worked much better if the Dev/Francesca thing was credible on a romantic level.

I think I swooned a little too hard at Alessandra Mastronardi to notice the flaws the first time I watched it, she really stole every scene she was in.
