More of the same - another one trick pony wins for the third time in four seasons First was Asian cuisine Christine, then Italian Luca, and now Mexican Claudia.

Thinking about this more, I guess having someone win where it giftwraps a theme for the cookbook is a much better selling point. Too bad it turns the underlying show into a shell of its former self.

Claudia won one less thing than him and he barely survived elimination four times to her one. Its a myth that he was clearly better.

Stephen was the winningest of the season and never came close to elimination before he bounced third. Nick was second winningest and only almost got eliminated once.

Claudia won because she was consistent and she killed it in the final four once she got there. Her menu was considerably more refined and consistent than Derrick's. She finished the show elevating her culture and had a clear brand, he finished it trying new gimmicks he read about and seemingly didn't grow much throughout the show.

Dude could plate and he was an artist with food but he wasn't the Masterchef. He should have finished fourth by any "every time (s)he cooked" measure.

Luca second winningest if his season. Equalled second place for almost being eliminated. I think that season it wasn't the most logical result and I expected him to flame out a number of times but he was a legit winner on paper for sure and as a viewer I can only second guess so far.

Christine was winningest and didn't almost get eliminated even once. She was a ****ing beast that season. The only point she looked vulnerable was the final two where I wasn't sold she had the best menu from how it was edited but I also didn't taste the food so **** do I know. Second guessing the clearly best of that season is dumb.

So the show is back 1st of June and one of the competitors is David Williams, of poker, mtg and fetish porn fame.

Which was really unexpected when I read it earlier today.

Also Graeme is out as judge for anyone who didn't hear about it.

Looks like they are dropping down to two full time judges + guest judges, which kinda sucks. I stopped watching when Joe left but with a dvr now I'll probably watch this season.

Always liked Williams so I'm excited to see him on there

How are ratings compared to Masterchef Jr? It almost seems like the original is the comparative afterthought now, with more attention and fanfare tied to the Jr. version.

Not sure if anyone watches the junior edition, but though Jasmine won, I think Justice was the much stronger cook technically. Of the two, she has to be the favorite to actually do something in the industry if she decides to stick with it.

"i'll take the 50% chance"
