Finding the key in averys room does nothing to either hypothesis. There has not once been one coherent argument presented how this thing got planted and this is supposed to be the most controversial piece of evidence.
1) how would the police have obtained the key prior to finding it?
2) they searched the room for 1 1/2 days. Cutting it short on day 1 because of weather. They found the key on the second day of searching his room. Why didn't they plant the key on the first day?
3) why didn't they plant the key in a less conspicuous spot? IE: Maybe inside a desk, inside a folder in his shelf, in the closet, in his jacket pocket etc...
4) Why would they plant her key? They already had a mountain of evidence against this guy. Why even plant the key? Seems like a pretty risky thing to do to risk life in prison for a guy that is as good as convicted.

You told the truth by mistake.
Indeed the place the key was allegedly 'found'
was a conspicuous spot, where a procession of cops tramping in and out of the room would have to practically step over it every time they entered or left.
There is no coherent innocent explanation for how the key got there.
The only rational conclusion is that it was planted.
