Mad Men: Season 7 Mad Men: Season 7

04-13-2014 , 05:33 AM

The final season of one of the best shows ever starts tonight, and we have no thread about it.

I imagine there are two reasons for this:

- Last season was very hit and miss compared to seasons that went before it. We debated this a ton at the time, but the passing of time certainly seems to have cemented that view amongst critics.

- The customary complete lack of spoilers/hype from Matthew Weiner. There's a decent article over at Grantland on that topic. Essentially we have a few publicity stills and a short teaser of Don getting off a plane, and not much else. There's a bit of info in some of the reviews that have come out in the last couple of days, but the reviewers are still generally scared to say much. Similarly, as always please be aware of the rules on this forum regarding spoilers.

So, we have 14 episodes left, split over two 7 episode half-seasons (everything has been filmed at once). Here's a refresh on what happened last season.

Finally, a bonus Roger pic:

It won't backfire it's just not gonna ever get as big as Breaking Bad did.

I think wiener has taken mad men on a trajectory that makes it less and less accessible to the general public and that's why the hype around it has subsided around it, but if you put the effort in to watch it at the level wiener wants it's just as, if not more awesome than it's ever been.

I think this is the best TV show of this decade. Nevertheless, if it's going to be back at the same time next year, I refuse to consider this the final season.

I think Mad Men and Sopranos stand out the best shows ever, astounding achievements.

Ok so how exactly does one put that effort in? How can I up my level of watching?

Go back in time and pay closer attention in English class.

(If you're American, I dunno what they call literature classes in other countries).

I agree that season 6 is probably the weakest of the series but it had some really great moments. Sally shrugging to "You like trouble, don't you", Don humiliating Ted in a meeting, Don breaking down in the chocolate meeting, Don showing the kids where he grew up.

But seriously the Ted Chow Peggy romance was perhaps the worst onscreen romance of all time. Peggy could have had Stan. STAN. Ted has the sex appeal of a mackerel. YOU COULD HAVE HAD STAN PEGGY! STAN!!!
