The Lord Of the Rings: The Rings Of Power The Lord Of the Rings: The Rings Of Power

Just watched the first two - holy cow, this has the potential to be truly great. The budget must be astronomical, because it looks spectacular. The actress who plays Galadriel is damn good, too.

Loved the dwarves and the look at Khazad-dûm in all its glory...it was great fun. Not sure what the meteor with the weird giant is all about, but I guess we shall see.

Just minutes in, but...

- climbing a giant ice wall?
- a threat of old believed to be legend by now?

Where have I seen this before?

Anyway looks great and seems worth the watch for the production value alone!

Are you implying GOT was first with that idea?

Probably not lol; fair enough! But the ice wall? I mean this series is basically LoR lore with some decal, right? They probably could have had a scene in a desert just as well. Seemed like an odd choice to me.

Maybe it was already in the lore and GOT ripped it off, like they did with the return on ancient menace which was the heart of LoTR.

Def has potential. Dialogue feels a bit stilted and exposition-y, but hopefully we get more action as it moves along. Visual effects are great.

Very hopeful about this and think it started well. The visuals are incredible and I think they're doing a decent job so far at capturing the feel of Middle-earth (and not tying to be GoT). Really enjoying the Elrond/Durin storyline the most so far.

For those that don't know, a lot of this is original story not taken directly from Tolkien's writings, but it's based on his rough storyline of the "Second Age", which spans thousands of years leading up to the events of LotR. What he wrote contains relatively limited narrative detail, so they're basically following the rough outline, but filling in the gaps. It's creating some angst amongst Tolkien purists, but there's definitely potential for some cool stories to be told in that world while still being faithful to the spirit of the overall story if they do it right. Amazon's already committed to 5 seasons with a billion dollar budget, so they're betting a lot on this.

In terms of visuals this blows everything else out the water. The money has been well spent.

First two eps show there's potential. The pace needs to pick up a bit though.

watched the 2 episodes

Agree on above has potential needs to speed up a bit in upcoming episodes.

Only gripe is the accents, probably not something US viewers will pick up on but the accents are all over the place, Lenny Henry, one minutes hes got some wierd irish accent and the next minute its like a hybrid brummie/farmer eee by gum accent.

it looks like this show got "review bombed", meaning racists and misogynists spammed the reviews to give it a low rating. same thing happened with she hulk

i was reluctant to start it just cuz i saw the 6.5 rating or whatever it was on imdb. but im glad i watched it anyway. good show

i love the lead. she is great.

i like the feel of the new(old) hobbits.

i like the more diverse casting too

Personally, I would give ep. 1 a rating of 6 of 10 and would give the second half of ep. 2 a rating of 8 of 10 when they have some real quality action scenes. I'm not a big fan of Lord of the Rings genre, but you can see that they spent a ton of money on the production value for this series. Will watch more.

I enjoyed the first two episodes quite a bit. However, after reading the negative reviews, I fear the rest of the series may be tarnished for me.

Show just pushed the line on generic cheesy and being too twee and earnest.

Would have been nice to have some fresh takes, comedy burly Dwarves for example has been done a million times, could have mixed it up a bit.

Also had a problem with the sets and wardrobe, the sets all look brand new even when they are trying to show something old and ancient, nothing looks delipidated and worn down, it looks like a freshly made prop of something ancient and worn down.

The clothes the human villagers wore are so TV generic as well, same in wheel of time, same sort of stuff remote human colonists wear in Star Trek etc.

I know these seem like small nit picks but in the golden age of Television quite a few shows push boundaries and bend tropes, its kind of boring to have what looks like the same **** just different story trotted out again.

Better than I expected. Mary Sue Guyladriel could get on my nerves soon though if she just one-shots every enemy the whole series. Rey skywalker all over again

Ya ok the review bombing makes sense. That was my guess too.

E2 was much much better than E1. I was sweating a bit after E1.

Feels like it might get good.

It wasn't an "ice wall" that they climbed. It was a rocky mountain, with patches of ice and a waterfall flowing off it. Seems more like a rip off of The Alpinist than of Game of Thrones. There's nothing wrong with taking good ideas from Game of Thrones anyways. All franchises in the genre including Game of Thrones took ideas from Lord of the Rings (in much the same way that all zombie films took inspiration from Romero's Night of the Living Dead).

Digging the show. Like the mystery of it, world is big where is sauron what's going on etc. Kinda hoping the show will deserve a rewatch when we learn what's actually going on.

Did I get it right that the elf king sent galadriel away even though he believed sauron still exists, but he's lying to everyone about evil being destroyed? Kinda weird. (nm sorta got it from wiki)

Does feel like morgoth should be season 1 and sauron season 2.
