Does feel like morgoth should be season 1 and sauron season 2.
Morgoth was during the First Age, thousands of years before this show takes place.

Everyone in the age this show takes place in had mythical strength. Then by time we get to hobbits age almost everyone sucks? I suppose this could be that the tales were told so much they got exaggerated.
Again more of a first age thing. Though tbf the Numenorians are kind of like superhuman men which we haven’t really seen much of yet.

As a lore head I’m liking the show except for the non-lore stuff. The hobbits are boring. Not loving Clark as Galadriel. Need more Elendil, probably the coolest/most interesting character of this age. Can’t wait to see more of Ar-Pharazon too. Elrond/Durin stuff is good.

The stranger is a blue wizard, not Gandalf.

Thought this episode was a game changer.

Have been solid meh on all episodes upto now but this one I enjoyed a fair bit and felt a good amount of buy in.

I suppose one way way to make things epic is to take your time.

Though I did nearly switch off during the montage of the munchkins moving set to song.

It's weird to this is being called a failure because I feel like I'm watching a pretty good show right now.

Are the anti-Bezos squad paying people to write bad reviews or do people have ridiculously high expectations these days. I admit I use to do this but I think the golden age of tele is over now and anything I can just sit through is a win

They should have released all the episodes at once. In today's TV world, weekly episodes work if the show's building tension every time and creating water cooler moments. This show is 90% setup where each story progresses at a glacial pace. It would be easier to maintain interest if you could watch back to back.

Cant believe they were so lazy they went with ooh I am so close to losing this fight but love interest will save me with off screen stab and here comes the cavalry.

There were too many last second saves and interventions. I'm just glad though that something actually happened.

Seems like the show is kinda dead. No interest here, and all the social media stuff is ultra negative

I'm still enjoying it, but they really need to pick up the pace, especially if they're going to appeal to a mass audience. If it weren't for all the little easter eggs and nods to the books (that are probably flying right over most people's heads), I'd probably be getting bored. Next week is already the season finale and remarkably little has happened to advance the main plot since the premiere.

They've set up all of these mysteries (where's Sauron, who's meteor man, who's Halbrand, who's Adar, who are these weird priestesses skulking around, what's the point of Harfoots), but haven't really done anything to answer anything yet, which is starting to get annoying. There are some cool main characters from the books (Elendil, Isildur, Pharazon, Gil-galad) that they've introduced but not really done anything interesting with yet. Still not even a mention of any rings of power. It has a lot of potential and I'm not giving up on it yet, but they really have to step up the writing in season 2.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Seems like they may clear up one mystery in the finale and leave all the bait to get people into season 2. I heard they are planning on working on season 2 for a couple of years though, so it'll be a loooong wait, and I can't imagine too many people going to back to re-watch this season or keep interest for season 2.

Kinda sucks because there is a lot here that could be good but I don't want to wait years to get to the tootsie center

Should have been a 40 minute scene in the Department of Elven Land Registry.

I was getting into the glacial pace, but it only works in a 20+ episode season.

One more episode is just taking the piss.

Also fwiw the dominant theory online is that Halbrand is Sauron, which would be lol if true.

At least that would be somewhat of an explanation why they didn't open the bundle after taking it off Adar. The only other explanation being gross stupidity.

So the scope of the show is the entire history of the second age?

Right up till Isildur refuses to throw the ring in mount doom?

That is 50 years of television at this pace.

Yes, but they're doing some weird things to compress the timeline though. There should have been 25 Numenorean kings spanning 3000+ years of the second age, but they've completely skipped over the first 23, mostly to avoid the problem of having to replace the entire human cast every other episode. On the other hand, they're presumably telling the story of the rise of Sauon and the creation of the rings of power, which happened a couple thousand years before that point in Numenorean history. Also with the dwarves, Durin IV is supposed to be the reincarnation of Durin III after his death, but in the show they have them alive together as father & son. They're being very vague about what year it actually is because they're not really following Tolkien's chronology, but just mashing up the major second age events to make it feel like they're all happening around the same time.

And despite the long time period, there's not actually that much known second age history to tell, which is why they're having to add their own original storylines as well.

In the books, almost 2000 years. The rings exist way, way before Isildur is even born.

As someone that hasn't read the books and isn't up on the lore but loved the movies and is enjoying the show I'm curious as to why Halbrand being Sauron is laughable to those that have read the books?

Its laughable in the context of the show, well at least I thought so.

I am Good, was the best bit in this episode and in the last episode the best bit was the Southlands to Mordor transition.
