The Leftovers - Season 3 The Leftovers - Season 3

First episode definitely delivered.

I kept waiting for the latter half of that episode to be revealed as some kind of dream sequence - doesn't seem like a coincidence that things went from normal to wacky right after Kevin fell asleep.

Nice opener. Was a little confused with the cold open and the woman who thought she was going to be "taken" those nights. You would think Tommy would be alright after shooting Kevin's ex-friend, he killed some dude in (I think) S1E1 to save the girl Wayne knocked up.

Questions I want answer to:
1. What happend to Nora's arm?
2. What happened to Lily?
3. Was that a future scene at the end with an old Nora?

maybe she fell off her bike

or was in a car accident
(something pinged me about the story of him meeting Laurie that way, and Tommy being fine ... as opposed to Lily perhaps)

2. What happened to Lily?
we can only guess at this point

Wow. There I was concerned that it couldn't live up to season 2. A nice glad I was wrong. That was a fantastic opener.

The first scene is just an allegory, it's not part of the shows timeline, much like the cave woman's scene in season 2 opener.

As for the rest, lovely reintroduction to the characters. Everyone is still completely messed up.

Wonderful stuff. Roll on next episode.

Guessing that Kevo is sending her messages. She seems to want none of it though. Perhaps Kevin's ego gets the better of him and he starts some religion (cult).

Something to do with predicting a rapture that never comes? Future Nora knew what the note was going to say and disregarded it.

Bookending the episode with mysterious messenger pigeons past and (apparently) future is so Lost.

ya she was going to leave anyway, before Evie disappeared even
then the disappearance is revealed as a hoax and the GR infiltrate town
then Evie gets drone struck
guessing that was probably enough and she took off

curious whether we'll see her again or not

(non-zero chance she has Lily!?)

did Matt's wife come out of her coma last season?

Yep. In the finale I think.

There was a debacle about her getting pregnant and him saying she snapped out of her coma long enough for it to happen, but the townsfolk saying he banged his comatose wife without her knowing.

nah, think he's just an obv example of ppl still being nuts almost 7 years later
(and/or for if Kevin kept going down the road he was on)

if there was anything to it i would imagine it'd connect better to the stuff we know
like feral dogs ---> ppl (GR?) ---> government kinda works wrt Patti & Gladys in "International Assassin"
except, we know that they were actual people before The Departure
therefore Dean is just cray cray

(in b4 DL blows my mind with something to the contrary here, and he brings the dogs stuff full circle somehow)

Spoiler:
i think something along those lines is a distinct possibility, yes

would be interesting to re-watch with that in mind and see how well it fits
off the top of my head i suspect it might work very well

I liked ep1. Theroux really does a good job, also perfectly cast.

regarding dean and his sanity

Spoiler:
I tend to think that Dean was insane because of the way he opened fire on Kevin.
It's not like their previous meeting went real bad. That said, who knows if the dog story will continue or die out, but seems it would be beneath this show to have people transforming into dogs

Watched this series for the first time over the last few weeks. For me, peak season 1 (episodes 6, 9, and 10) was better than peak season 2, but overall season 2>season 1. I am really enjoying the show, but I am hoping not to be letdown by the finale. Season 3's ranking on metacritic puts it in as a top 10 season and in the company of The Wire and Soprano's best seasons.
