my rankings so far I think are 5>6>1>3>2>4 although the show as a whole has been great and I think all the episodes have been really good. Episode 6 had me almost crying and I might rank it higher than episode 5 but the entire ending of episode 5 was amazing.

Every episode so far as had an amazing send off to amazing music. Not sure what that's called in the film business but they've nailed that in every episode.

Pedro Pascal is killing it so hard in this role. Another very strong episode.

Yes, he and Bella Ramsey with her comedic relief have been fantastic, absolutely loved the latest episode. And when he's talking to his brother about how he's worried he's going to fail her and get her killed, man the acting, the pain, just top tier talent right there.

Was cool to see Tara from True Blood make an appearance too, doesn't look like she's aged at all

Did you catch the part in the episode where Tommy said they were expecting a baby? I'm thinking her added weight was to make that more believable, rather than them putting that in the script because Rutina Wesley was a little chubby.

Liking the show. Ellie and Joel felt kinda like blank slates at first but they are growing on me as we see more of their relationship. May be off base but I guess the impression is that Ellie is a lesbian kid? Looks like maybe she will get a romance in the next episode. If so I hope it doesn't end like her relationship with Sam.

Kathleen character was one of the few that felt way off for me. She came across like an annoying Karen. How she became the leader of the entire city is a mystery, but then again her brother was a GREAT MAN or so I've heard.

Nitpicks aside though I'm liking this a lot more than I liked House of Dragon.

they're doing wayyyyy too much telling instead of showing, it's the opposite of captivating. especially with how they're telling it

they could have used at least 1 ep within the period of the time jump after the outbreak. get into the joel/tommy stuff rather than them vaguely talking about the bad things they did, get into the joel/tess relationship so it actually hits when she dies, etc. vague descriptions of things from the past = zzzzz
(e.g. that seemingly pointless kc side quest ... TELL me more. no jk, plz don't)

None of that happens in the game and while they could have done that I guess; the story is about Joel and Ellie's journey and Joel coming to terms with the loss of his daughter, finding reason to live through Ellie, whatever, etc. Even if I didn't play the game I think we understand the type of relationship that Joel and Tess but I don't see why they needed to expand on it much when the main story is Joel and Ellie's journey together.

I don't think this is suppose to be like the Walking Dead or some show where the viewer is suppose to immersed in the journey of a dozen or so characters. It's easy enough to use your imagination to what the relationship was like between Joel and Tess or even the stuff that Joel and Tommy did to survive after the outbreak without showing it and again it doesn't really impact the journey of Joel and Ellie which is where I think the intentions are focused for the viewer as they certainly were in the game.

Agree that Kathleen wasn't all that great in the end but she didn't kill the show either. Ellie and the girl in today's episode will be flashbacks to her time with her friend in Boston. I don't think that's really a spoiler as you'll surely find that out early on into the episode.

Hope we get some of that and then also some resolution to what's happening in the current time.

yeah i mean i wouldn't care but they keep bringing tess up every 5 minutes and i'm at a loss because i don't know anything about her or her relationship to joel or anyone else because they haven't told us. i gather they were good friends, but that's about

like i said, maybe an ep in the time jump to show how they met and built their relationship? and also what he was up to in those years and the fallout with tommy, etc

sure, but then what am i watching this show for if i have to write it myself?

it does help and make for a stronger show if you take the time to build a foundation with this supposedly important stuff. vaguely telling over and over is powerful weak

but if those things don't matter then they should stop bringing them up all the time and get on with it

Joel and Tess were smugglers together in Boston and helped each other cope and gave company to each other living in a post apocalyptic world. I thought the show did enough to get that across and while maybe you don't see Joel and Tess sharing memories together I don't think it's impossible to imagine the type of relationship they shared both sexually, emotionally, and business related wise with the smuggling.

I don't think Joel blames himself for Sarah's death but he still lost his young daughter and the most important person in the world to him. I'm sure that's something that is and would be very difficult for most parents to ever really get over.

As for the Tommy and Joel stuff after the outbreak day. The points they try to make is they had to do some questionable things to survive between outbreak day and Boston. Tommy's connection with Tess was probably through Joel and their group while they were in Boston, maybe before Boston, and Tommy's connection with Marlene was through the Fireflies. The show has made those connections as did the game.

Spoiler:
Like the most recent episode involving Riley. Do you need more Riley backstory than this one episode to know that Ellie cared and was a friend of Riley? Do you need to know what happened to Riley's parents cause she brought them up in the episode? No.
