The first season is the entire first game and the Left Behind DLC. Season 2 seems like it’d have to be 2 seasons. No clue how they’ll approach the 3rd game, but one of the earlier ideas for Part 2 was an open world game so I could see something like that considering how Part 2 ended. It will also most likely be out before the season 4 (if part 2 goes that long) premiere and ends there or season 5.

Before it was confirmed otherwise, what I thought the show would be is completely different. I thought they would start with 2 episodes or so pre-outbreak and really dive in deep to how the world fell apart. That it would show all of the characters back in the day, enough so that the finale of season 1 would be around the time when they arrive in Bill’s Town, or even when the trio gets to the capital and that scene happens.

Had they gone that route, it would be an easy 6+ Season show. I’m glad they’re going the more faithful route.

Haven't played the games, but as a TV show it wasn't great. I don't get the hype at all. Paper-thin characters with barely any backstory, and the post-apocalyptic world is so far fairly uninteresting. I'll probably get slaughtered for this, but honestly the Walking Dead pilot was better than this. Yes, that show went downhill in record time and became a joke by season 2, but the pilot was quite good.

I get the fanwank reviews from gamers but I have no idea how the TV critics are falling for this. I guess I'll keep watching, but they need to keep visiting the world of 20 years ago, generic as that maybe writing-wise, or I'm going to lose interest.

Here is an older popular playthrough from PewDiePie. This first part is only 17 minutes long but covers up until the "20 Years later" if you are interested in comparing the introduction between the show to the game.

I wouldn't expect alot of flashbacks to the world of 20 years ago although in the games the characters reference those days at certain parts and the characters discover journals and other things that also reference events that take place during the 20 years inbetween, etc. Joel is probably on average much older than the typical survivor and other characters like Ellie were born in the in between time. I'd expect it to pick up and be more interesting as they travel cross country for you if they do the story right.

Oh episode 2 got better and I liked ep 1. Not a game player so know none of the story going in.
Spoiler:
Didn't realize Anna Torv was going to get killed so early, thinking she was a main character.

Many of my initial concerns were dealt with in this episode. I didn’t think they’d do that so soon but I’m glad they did.

Better than ep1 and I’m betting it just gets better and better throughout the run.

First off - I haven't played the game and know nothing other than what I'm seeing with each week's episode. But judging from E2, I feel like I have to ask those who are familiar with the storyline whether this will be less like The Walking Dead and more like Cormac McCarthy's The Road, because that's the vibe I was starting to get. But maybe that was just this one episode. I'd be curious to know, in case anyone wants to reply with spoiler tags.

Was underwhelmed compared to the apparent public consensus regarding episode 1, but decided it was just good enough not to quit on immediately. Episode 2 was significantly stronger IMO. I'm probably hooked now.

I played a little of the game when it was new, but not a lot.

I wasn't aware of "The Road" but through imdb and it's description I'd say The Last of US is probably closer to that than The Walking Dead. Thanks for mentioning it btw as it's got a good imdb score and cast so I'm definitely going to check it out now.

Not sure if needs spoiler tags but to answer your question....

Spoiler:
The Last of US, atleast the first game's main focus is on the developing relationship between Joel and Ellie as they make their journey and attempt to survive although they will meet and encounter a fair bit of other impactful characters along the way.

I had no clue what this show was before I started it and was interested as they filmed it in my neck of the woods

So its basically another Zombie Series. Sure jumped quick into it

E2 was worse than the pilot.

Spoiler:
Wtf was that zombie kiss at the end?

Spoiler:
There goes the only interesting character

It seems evident they've for some reason decided to stay way too loyal to the game, but so far all those decisions have made the show worse. For example when they were navigating through post-apocalyptic Boston, somehow they only have one path through every scene because handily there's a pile of random trash blocking every direction like in a PS1 RPG. Same with that E1 scene where the brothers got separated by a burning car and the other bro just couldn't run around it?!

To me the only bright spot in this series if Bella Thorne, who ironically is the only part of the show I've seen criticisms of. I have no clue what her character is supposed to be like, but whatever she's doing I think it works.

Someone said E3 should be groundbreaking, but if it doesn't get any better I'll probably give up. They've somehow made the post-apolacyptic would extremely uninteresting, it's basically like watching someone else play a video game.

Fwiw, the brothers do not get separated from a burning car in the video game. If you watch the 17 minute video I linked above what actually happens in the video game is they run through a back alley and Tommy has all hands free and encourages Joel and Sarah to go ahead as he says he can outrun the infected, etc. The endings of the introduction in both game and series are similar to that scene.

I'm still feeling the game vibe more but I'm enjoying the series so far.

filmed in Edmonton Alberta, pretty sweet.

So far the acting is oooook, the plot is decent.

But the sets are just delicious, best part of the show. It's pretty cool just looking at all the little detail everywhere.

Btw I thought they had a golden opportunity to build on the tension of E1 and then woop, time jump. That initial brief chaos seen was great. Hopefully they do some time jumps.

First half of E2 was super (the flash back). Rest so far as been ok.

The thing behind the zombie kiss was based on the idea that every time you deal with the infected, you’re fighting or fleeing. But what if you didn’t? Agreed it was creepy but that’s what they were going for. It’s certainly an interesting way to approach it. And Druckmann was hugely influenced by The Road when he wrote the game.

Next episode will probably make for quite a few ship jumpers. I’m looking very forward to it since it’s the biggest departure from the game.

I think episode 4 is when we start to get to what the show is about. They’ve now established the threats and dangers. Now they’re on their own.

Same. I am actually sick of streamers that drop weekly episodes and am in the process of canceling every streamer that does weekly drops for a while so I can add them back later and binge everything I missed.

Never played the game, but the first two episodes were pretty good. Love the fungus angle.

Maybe if you're concerned about differences from the game, you should consider just playing the game. This is a TV series - things change.

I’m loving it. All of it. I don’t really have a legit complaint about any of it. Just a few things I’d have preferred but it ain’t my show lol

I hope it differs from the game as much as possible aside from the major beats. A lot of the changes they’ve made have only deepened the story.

from what i've read, some of the issues stem from following the game too closely, as certain scenes are shot for shot recreations from it. seems silly to do that more than every once in a while, no need to box yourself in like that
