Episode 3 went off the rails and you guys can judge for yourselves what they were trying to put out there in that episode but overall most of the story has followed the game frame by frame in a way.
As a game player the only thing I think they've undermined a bit in a way is the threat of the infected to the humans. In the game you are constantly battling infected but in the show they almost seem like an afterthought. I've loved the performances so far by all the human actors but at the same time I cannot help thinking cannot we all work together to create a similar situation to 'Jackson' all around the world? I mean so far the infected have not seemed to be much of a threat in the show.
I am not a game player myself, but not throwing the budget into big cgi battles sets it apart from twd imho. The looming threat is sprinkled in and instead of constantly facing hordes of monsters we are shown how people cope with the apocalypse. Cults, fascism, preppers, communism and all kinds of predatory groups of raiders, hunters, slavers etc.
Facing mindless orcs becomes repetative and dull very soon as seen on twd
.
The one thing i find annoying/too predictably is the fact that barely any person or group they meet makes it to the next episode but afaik thats in the spirit of the game and we are following joel and ellies journey not henrys or bills.
