Most normal people would eventually freak out and stab somebody if they lived in the house, though. Vinny is an excellent audience surrogate. Also he gets paid way more than minimum wage so he's not replacement level by definition.

Vinny seems to do most of the clarification clips on the show. I imagine the producers whisk him into into the interview room after every little happening to film a 10 second explanation of what just happened. So he has that going for him.

Watching the whole first season straight through was awesome. So many great lines I had forgotten about. Missed a grenade launch here and there, too. Then I watched the JS Reunion Show.. that sht was epic! The way they pull out the "never before seen footage" of Sammi and the Situation on Ronnie is priceless. Almost as priceless as Sammi's reaction. Can't wait for this season's reunion show (I know, it's early, but..).

sort of like when a kid drops something and asks his parents what they should do

Mike is clearly the alpha male in the house as evidenced by stuff like this, gathering the housemates to talk about angelina, etc.

Also, following on from my non factor point, i think a lot of the cast are likely to be ones this season. Snooki, JWOWW both have boyfriends whom they don't look likely to cheat on, and Sammi isn't probably gonna go hooking up with a ton of guys if/when the Ronnie situation goes belly up. i think vinny basically snuck past the producers and screening due to his passionate fist pumping and the fact that he has more personality when drunk... but usually is real boring. he certainly didnt seem as boring to me in the trailers for season 1 or interviews.

also that letter is ridiculous:

i also didnt really understand what MTV was trying to accomplish by showing situation going outside the ice cream shop and taking off his shirt and them trying to pretend that it didn't create any attention. anyone from Jersey shore going anywhere with cameras creates crowds, let alone situation standing around with no shirt on. didn't really see a point to why they'd do that if he's also supposed to be their star character and portrayed as the alpha male.

shrug, i thought hte shirtless ice cream ad was kind of funny because it allowed snooki to call situation creepy...if you remove the celeb aspect, a dude with no shirt on trying to entice people into an ice cream shop is super creepy and funny to me...

It's pretty low. There are tons of cameras in S. Beach. Just because it's a hit show on MTV doesn't mean people are watching it.

I'm assuming this shop is not near the bars so that means the likelihood of being reconized is even lower. If people were piling in, don't you think MTV would show that?

Also, when were they down here? It was a pretty cold winter by Florida standards. Ft. Lauderdale had snow reported 1 morning.
