It's obviously ridiculous that people keep questioning Jack's motives or character after saving the world so many times, but that's part of the fun of the show.
CTU must have also set a record for number of moles. It's such an easy organization to infiltrate.
I think it's testament to the show's greatness that people look back fondly on those obvious flaws in its logic and chuckle about them, rather than some other shows where the flaws really count against the show's credibility. 24 did a great job of creating a world where the events of each particular season were just about independent enough from the previous ones that people would largely forget that they saw the same thing so many times.
I mean, how often did we see the following plots:
- Random bystander gets caught up in the chaos and becomes Jack's only way to fix the situation/catch the bad guy
- CTU gets somehow infiltrated/bombed/destroyed/gas attacked
- Jack has to deliver some kind of vital piece of computer equipment within a few hours or something catastrophic happens
- ****ing Kim does something stupid and gets in the way
- Someone in charge of CTU has a personal situation that results in them getting fired
- Jack has to make a difficult decision between the life of an innocent person and the mission
- "If you can't get us proof of X by time Y, Jack, we're gonna be at war with country Z"
- Turns out the bad guy from the beginning of the season is actually working for another guy, who's working for another guy, who's secretly working for the first guy, who's working for someone inside the government
...and yet still, it was such an enjoyable show.
