I like how the terrorists have tried to do this numerous times, with multiple men, lots or resources, lots of time and fail. But Jack decides he's going to do it, and bam, 1 hour later he's done it!

We're talking about the show where the US President was removed from power because he didn't respond to a terrorist attack within 10 hours, right? The show where the White House has a secret underwater entrance that is unguarded?

I love shows and movies that have stormwater and sewerage systems under houses and buildings. I don't know how you build **** in America, but in Australia you don't put this stuff under anything other than roads and easements with no structures over it. If you built this under a building talk about increasing costs of foundation work for a building. Plus increase costs of any maintenance works etc etc (can you guess my occupation!)

The thing I loved was you knew Jack would win in the end but still cool action scenes.

Even with the bad seasons just watching Jack was fine by me.

I see fifteen people held hostage on a bus, and everything else goes out the window. I will do whatever it takes to save them, and I mean whatever it takes. ... Laws were written by much smarter men than me. And in the end, these laws have to be more important than the 15 people on the bus. I know that's right. In my mind, I know that's right. I just don't think my heart could ever have lived with it.

Obligatory:

3 > 5 = 2 >>> 4 >>> 1 >>>> 7 = 6 8????????????

Never saw 8.

that seems like a pretty absurd ranking.

3>2>1>>>5>4>8>>>6>7

i feel like the rankings within the tiers are debatable but the tiers aren't.

4 and 1 were decent quality, but were held up by the 2 WOAT subplots of early 24, the mentally challenged kid and the Teri Bauer amnesia storylines were just so absurdly bad they actually detracted from the quality of the season.

5, 3, and 2 were the clear top 3 IMO.

The amnesia was horrible. Just so unnecessary and a completely unbelievable plot line.

The mentally challenged kid wasn't unbelievable, just totally unnecessary.

The main thing is both of the story lines appeared to be just filler. Really could have done something that affected the storyline.

agreed!

i actually didn't really like season 1 very much. though i watched them out of order, so i had already seen seasons 2 and 3 before i watched season 1 ... might have ruined it a little bit for me, though i still enjoyed it. it was just like watching a prequil.

and the later seasons really suffered without palmer. i didn't really like his brother much. and the female president i thought was horrible. she really pissed me off.

the 2 hour special before the season with the afrian bad guys was probably better than the season itself.

To be fair to 24, the actress playing the kid's mom wanted to leave for some reason so they wrote her off fast. (Which is weird since the actress was supposed to be in season 1, you'd think after finally getting the job you wouldn't leave)

Standard 24 procedure to remove a character from the show is to have them killed!

I always thought of how hard it would be (for anyone not named Kiefer) to negotiate a contract with Fox.

"Can I please have a 5% pay rise"

"Sure, for the next episode. After that we won't be needing you anymore as you will be in a body bag"

Easily a top 3 single episode OAT. The intensity Saunders places on them, Chappelle chickening out then resigning himself to his fate. The ending scene, all fantastic.

Top moments in no particular order

1) I'm going to need a hacksaw
2) Jack/Chappelle scene
3) Jack storming the terrorists to save Heller and Aldry
4) Jack chopping off Chases hand
5) Jack biting the guys neck to escape after coming back from the Chinese Prison
6) When Palmer got shot (still my most WTF just happened moment on TV)
7) Jacks wife dying at the end of Season 1. Set the show as 'the good guy doesn't always win'
8) Jack kidnapping Logan
9) Any scene where Kim was running. Just awesome.

I don't even remember those story lines lol. They must have been truly awful.

Great scene- but I think I remember being mad that the President/Jack/someone stops giving into Saunder's demands right after that, no? Like Ryan died for nothing?

Rewatching Season 1 now

Jack tells Teri and Kim to follow the creek and they'll find the water tower, no problem. Teri of course decides not to, because the bad guys will be looking for them there.

Of course, they get lost. Dammit!

Go back and watch the scene (Prob from that same episode) where Jack and Rick are pinned down behind a red van. Jack gives Rick a machine gun. Rick's face when he's firing is some of the most hilarious overacting I've ever seen.

Kinda OT but on the topic of hilarious overacting I was fortunate enough to catch the third Star Wars prequel last night and once again delight in a true masterclass of overacting during the pivotal Mace Windu/Palpatine confrontation and fight scene...such brilliant performances.
