just amazing how bad people are at math and logic. Should come as no surprise that the world is as ****ed up as it is when these are the "smart" people.

Lol, so awesome.

Half the fun of jeopardy is watching how badly people wager. It seems that 90%+ don't have a clue when it comes to DD and FJ wagering.

WTF!?! How did they get on this show?
Agreed. Although, I did find it strange that they called Neptune an ice planet. It's a gas giant, isn't it?. wtf? The only "ice" planet, really, is Pluto (although not anymore, R.I.P.)

Even if you know nothing about sports, you would also need to know nothing about Jeopardy to wager 0. Most FJ questions generally focus more on common sense puzzles that can be intuited and aren't straight trivia questions.

For anyone that didn't watch, scores were roughly:

Guy 1: 8000
Guy 2: 8400
Woman (obv): 14600

Woman wagers 0.
Her bet makes sense when you consider simple mathematics like she did...

Guy 1 has 8,000, so if he doubles his score then that would be 8+0+0+0 which still equals 8,000. If Guy 2 doubles his score he has 8+4+0+0 which equals 12,000. So she can't be caught, making 0 a perfectly fine wager.

x5 /2 (or could just do x2.5) +3? Fail, Jeopardy writers, fail.

They wanted to drive home the point that they do a great job of finding contestants who are worse at math than smart 2nd graders who happen to know a bunch of other random crap.

People got like 2 of them wrong FFS.

I would have respected that guess more than Jupiter or Saturn, despite it being clearly white in Empire.

The only thing I can think of is that they didn't actually show them the picture - that's the only way to excuse their triple-bomb.

Years and years ago, I remember one time when a woman, who was in a "can't be caught" situation going into FJ, bet $2 more than she should have (like $3301 instead of $3299 or whatever) so that she lost by $1 after the other guy doubled up. I don't know how you can live with yourself after that.

Its a high pressure situation, so I understand people getting them wrong.

Doing the math is a lot easier sitting on the couch than standing in front of the camera on national TV.

Perhaps being completely unable to handle stress is the whole reason why the vast majority of them screw up any and all math every time they should be doing it on the show, hence this thread.

i thought i heard that they have unlimited time to do whatever math they have to. makes it inexcusable to make an error.

imsa is talking about a math category, standard timing applied. but yes you get unlimited time to prepare your FJ wagering.

btw that category completely sucked, simply because it became a 'who can buzz first then work it out' contest.

lately i skim through the thread for each ep on the jeopardy forums. it's amazing how bad the trivia knowledge of some people that post there everyday is.

i knew someone would say that but they aren't to this extent. you could buzz with total impunity on this one.
