They are still on the all tournament format, bringing back players from former seasons in order to fill a TOC prior to the 100% new season begins. My understanding is 100% new and original clues and contestants will begin in April.

These 2nd chance tournaments haven't been bad. In the past 2 weeks we've seen 2 players who, in consecutive games, had a chance to beat 18 game winner Chris Panullo.

1. Xanni Brown - holds the all-time record for high 2nd place score going into FJ in a runaway game (19,400). She just punched her ticket to the reimagined TOC this spring.

2. Matt Harvey - looked like he had Panullo on the ropes the very next game until the champ shoved and took the lead on a late DD find. Monday is the second game of his 2 game 2nd chance final.

Of the two above, Brown >> Harvey

I love how outwardly disgusted players are when there’s a sports category.
I’m catching up and this woman just like literally put her buzzer down and like crossed her arms in protest.

I’d love someone to do that for like Shakespeare or Musicals, and then buzz in with absurd answers like they do on “This New York baseball team, and no we’re not yanking your chain…” Who are the, the New York helicopters?

What’s oh I don’t know… I don’t read stuff like Shakespeare it’s beneath me… uh the man in Vienna??

In case anyone is still following with all the random tournaments: Today was the first episode of the 31st Tournament of Champions. 27 players this time around.

It's been a slog to get through all the second chance stuff. Then Ken fires it up on Friday saying it's the biggest ToC ever. Like, yeah, duh. Weirdly I've been craving just regular matches.

No idea what kind of ratings they got for those tournaments. But overall feedback on the internet has been bad and it looks like interaction is down, too.

I think people already grew tired of the increased amount of daytime tournaments over the last couple of years.

Why in the world start a tournament on Friday

14 games in the tournament. I guess if they started it on a Tuesday, it could end on a Friday.

Should be at least 15 games unless my elementary school math is failing me again.

FWIW, the pregame tournament favorite is already out.

9 Quarterfinals + 3 Semifinals + 2 game final = 14

Unless I'm missing something like the finals are first to win 2 games.

If I read it correctly, finals are best of 7, first to 3 wins like in the GOAT tournament.

Got it.

So anywhere between 15 and 19 episodes.

And yes, I was also shocked to see Chris Panullo get crushed.

It used to be shockingly easy to find full episodes on YouTube.

Anyone have a link to Friday’s and/or Monday’s?

Shame that Chris got beat. Felt like he wasn't as sharp, and also got crushed on the buzzer. And of course the 3-0-0 swing in Daily Doubles doesn't help.

In the next stunner, Celebrity Jeopardy winner Ike Barinholtz advanced over 13 game winner Ray Lalonde.

Would be extremely cool if he went on to win the thing.

Is he still playing for charity or for himself this time?

Barinholtz would have made the final but bet wrong in Final Jeopardy. He had something like 10,800 to Ben Chan’s 15,200 (numbers likely not exactly correct, but close enough). Both answered incorrectly, and Ben properly bet to cover a Barinholtz double up, leaving him with <$10K. Barinholtz did bet for a full double and went home. I would have thought he’d have been smart enough to know proper strategy there, but no.

Luigi probably a better player but Troy has a chance. The smallest chance, but a chance.

Ben versus Yogesh is good

Based on what metric?

FWIW, the Jeopardy Fan had Troy as the favorite going into the finals. All three semi finals went to the player who was favored by the prediction model.

I think Troy came into the tournament as the player with the second highest average Coryat score behind Chris.
