Notice how quiet this thread is during a tournament week comprised of players that were all decent enough to warrant asking back...

The thread has been slow in general lately. Not much attention given to a potential new super champion.

Until today.

Was this the first time ever that somebody risked a lock game in a two day tournament final?

Apparently it was something to do with a 5 minute time limit and not giving the contestants the previous day scores other than the brief flash on screen? Glad it wasn't punished, I think she was clearly the best player in this group.

Source on not showing the previous days scores?

If one can’t do that simple math in less than 5 minutes then they probably don’t deserve to win.

I know the younger set has Clavined a lock on the second day and I’m 98% sure it’s happened in other tournaments as well.

Lost in the ether, but I remember it in relation a Teen Tournament where a guy bet zero on the 2nd day when it wasn't a lock, thinking it was a lock for that reason.

I enjoyed the first second chancament.

I vaguely remembered a few of them. I wish they did more of a refresher on what made each person worthy of this.

A former ToC finalist said they had notecards on their lectern of the previous day’s scores.

Also, the contestants aren’t seeing what’s added in post on your TV screen. That and it makes zero sense that the contestants wouldn’t have easy access to this important information.

Obviously didn't mean the same post-production flash on screen. Figured it was shown on the eggcrate scoreboard during the time we were shown that based on what I had remembered reading somewhere almost a decade ago. Anyway, reports from those there say that they were given the scores multiple times and were also given nearly unlimited time to work out their wager. Jessica herself has admitted she made a math error on her scratch paper.

She thought she had over 10k of wiggle room? Or she thought she needed 10k more to ensure victory?

Jennings says “Short-lived” with the lived rhyming with hive

Short-(L)Hived, and apparently it’s considered correct. But also, stop being a f-ck Ken…

(He’s done this a few times)

She didn't realize she had a lock-game.

Noticed during the M-W games, second and third place were the normal $1k and $2k prizes.

Does the winner of each semifinal keep the $ they win there? Also, what do the finalists get for a prize? (ofc the winner gets the advance to TOC)

No idea about this second chance tournament specifically, but usually they don't get anything for advancing. 3rd place in the final gets 10k, second place 20k. First place last week got 35k but I assume they would have been allowed to keep their winnings if that number was higher.

Flat $35k no matter what for this one (+ ToC entry, of which, the participation trophy is usually $10k I think).
