Mattea laughed aloud when the contestant answered “what is water” on the first question

Top female winner of all time. Quite an accomplishment.

That was hilarious. Not sure if she laughed because they both got it wrong (followed by the third player) or because the answer was that bad.

Pretty sure there's a thread for that in the politics forum.

And yet another woman had the champ backed into a corner. Yet another woman who didn’t know how to finish her off. That’s thrice now I think.

Hope she was just happy to be there.

In all fairness, that last DD is a pretty tricky spot.

Champ: 11400
Sarah: 17600

Only 4 clues left, but big ones for 7200 total.

So the goal is to bet big enough to maximize the chance for a lock game if right. But also small enough to maximize the chance of going into FJ with the lead if wrong.

She bet 5000. I have no idea what I would have bet.

Agree with Mad it was a tough spot.

Also Citizen Kane seems like a wild knowledge gap to have for a Jeopardy! Contestant, I was shocked she didn't get it, esp since iirc she got a bunch of clues right in a Tv/movie or actors category earlier in the game.

Missed a damn easy fj looks like. And mattea with the accidental troll.

Kinda sad to see Mattea go but she had it coming for the whole week.

FJ was obviously a layup for the lady from the Atlanta metro.

I frequently connect through Atlanta to/from Europe and there are a lot of signs in the airport about Hartsfield and Jackson being former mayors. But if you're not familiar with the airport, it might not even help if you come up with Coca-Cola being headquartered in Atlanta.

I didn't watch much of her, and could be wholly wrong, but feel like she'd get smoked by almost all former 5+ winners. Big time fade in any tourney format. Nice results though.

How did you come up with that?

Based on stats, she's not even the worst 10+ day champion this season or the worst 20+ day champion in history.

She beats both Jonathan Fisher and Julia Collins in every relevant category: avg. winnings; Coryat score; first in on buzzer (very relevant for head-to-head); % correct; % DD correct; % FJ correct.

Just last season we had a champ who won $120k total over 8 days.

Recency bias is obviously strong and we had two of the best players of all-time on this season but I'm pretty sure Mattea would have been favored in several ToC in the past.

Not at all. At some point, the five shows per day has to get mentally tiring.

She looked off on the prior show and was shocked when her opponent missed on FJ. Now, she's right back out there and was still not as sharp as she'd been, but still rallied late to hold the lead.

She just got a FJ that was out of her knowledge range.

Please please please explain to me why she would willing stop an intellectual exercise that pays $100k+ per day.

If I were ever so lucky to be in the position, I think somewhere in the middle of show three I'd hit that wall.

Mattea averaged $112k per day.

James averaged $352k per day in regular play. So having to “work” two days (albeit for a shorter time) to collect $250k in the tournament of champions wasn’t that good of a deal for him.

Random aside but kinda cool the author of the 100 was on the show last week and won a game. Pretty sure there was a thread based on the show it got developed into once upon a time in this very forum!

Very interesting FJ betting today.

Scores going into final:
4000
14600
16200

2nd bets 6599 which is the maximum bet that guarantees at least 2nd place. Also wins the game on a triple stumper, if 1st bets to cover.

1st bets 8000 though. That's either a pretty bad bet or a sick soul read..

And 3rd bet $700 to stay ahead of 1st making the standard cover wager and 2nd making the suicide wager.

Let’s see now, sick soul read or complete ignorance. That’s a toughie…..

Could also be an actual read. I wonder how hard it is to glance over the divider and see what you opponent wagers.

On second thought the podiums are farther apart now, so it seems far less likely than it could have been.

It’s basically impossible for two reasons. 1, they use a light pen type apparatus on a screen to write. Try seeing that from feet away at a bad angle. 2, they make the wagers during the break with several staff members right on top of you.

Don't they get scrap paper to calculate. Maybe that was flashed by accident.

But I agree. It seems super unlikely. I was just kind of thinking out loud.
