Not sure what annoyed me more today. The guy on Jeopardy who proudly bet $200 on his daily double or the gal on the Chase who knows nothing (except for who the oldest Jonas brother is), not even which month daylight savings time starts, but wins $50k because she’s paired with a really strong player.

Guy on Jeopardy is a math teacher. Can't explain in any way his statement or bet. Something like, "I've always wanted to say this: $200." Didn't even use the "true daily double" phrase.

Haven't watched much of Amy's run at all, but nice win today.

She doesn't daily double hunt and she bets small. Does she crush because she has good buzzer speed and wide breadth of knowledge?

Yes to both, she completely crushes the buzzer.

She’s >95% when buzzing in, that’s significantly higher than both Ken and Matt (both at 92.x%). Her Coryat is lower than both of theirs though.

She is getting over half the clues correct which leaves her opponents fighting for scraps.

She hunted a little more early on, she’s seems to be on cruise control of late.

Odds she breaks Ken Jennings' streak record?

about 1 in 20 apparently, based off a ~92% win likelihood

i find it strange how she plays so suboptimally in SJ and DJ and then basically bets the max every time in FJ

I guess there's a difference between having to do the SJ/DJ numbers on the fly in a couple of seconds and having more time for FJ. Besides that, by now she definitely knows that betting the max is ideal for her in most cases in FJ. Not sure why she still didn't get that betting everything in SJ is optimal though.

yeah, i wasn't just talking wagering though (which is certainly bad), but her complete lack of hunting is hard to watch.

GG Amy.

Does somebody know what the exact requirements are for when a contestant has to provide first and last name? Being allowed to answer "Manning" when both Payton and Eli would be possible answers sounds wrong to me.

That question has been bandied about for many years and the answer is there are no exact requirements. It’s totally up to the writers/producers/host. And it seems inconsistent at times.

We do know however that if a first name is required in FJ that the contestants are informed of such beforehand.

I thought that FJ was easy but I guess it either comes to you or it doesn't and there's not really a way to figure it out.

If you’re prepared geographically you know the top 10 populous countries. Stuff like that comes up frequently. It’s a list I learned 25+ years ago. Took a few seconds to buzz through the list and bingo.

Umm, just run down the most populous countries. Start by continent if needed, definitely a way to figure it out in 30 seconds.

I went through the top 10 list twice, minus the fact that I didn’t know Mexico passed Japan 2 (?) years ago but somehow missed one which obviously was Bangladesh.

Was thinking the same thing when I watched tonight. I told my wife early in the episode she was going to lose, then she went on a run and looked to be in command. Can’t believe I wasn’t spoiled.

Good run, wp, Amy.

Kudos to Rhone for actually going for it on the Daily Doubles and putting a runaway out of mathematical possibility. My soul died a little every time a challenger would find it in round 1 and bet anything less than the max.
