she really has been.

yeah, i'm getting tired of the Matt's run too. Ż\_(ツ)_/Ż

I think she’s doing a pretty good job, nothing to complain about so far.

The general population really likes super-super champs, so having someone like Matt on the show should be a plus overall. Especially with all the off-screen drama.

James managed to get 4 episodes in the top 10 of most watched entertainment programs of the 2018/19 programming season:
https://deadline.com/2019/06/james-h...gs-1202634378/

[if anyone wonders why 60 minutes is up there, one of the main reasons is the non-entertainment programming it follows in the Fall]

I like Mayim well enough so far. Would be fine with her hosting indefinitely.

I like the way Matt plays (minus leading every answer with "what's"). As a viewer I could do with fewer runaways obviously, but it's just a natural byproduct of his style.

That guy today annoyed the **** out of me.

If he bets it all on the SJ DD, he wins the game.
If he finds a DD in DJ and gets it right he wins the game.

Instead he bets 1500 of 3400 on the first DD and celebrates getting it right. In DJ he hunts for $400 clues instead of looking for a DD. And then in FJ he finally decides it’s time for a big wager and celebration after he gets it right. In a runaway game.

Absolutely. He threw away the win. And so far there’s at least one idiot on jboard saying we shouldn’t armchair quarterback. There will be others.

Idiots drive me insane.

Please read the full title of this thread. He posted at 611e.

This was discussed in detail some years ago and it was decided that 6pm eastern was the start time for that day’s discussion. And that’s when it was added to the thread title. At that time it aired in my market at 11am.

If you like, I can PM you each day’s results at 1230c which is when the first airing ends.

Think it's still good not to post too early, like how we should all merge early and take our turn.

C’mon man, you know my posting style by now. Sometimes I just can’t help myself. It was a wide open shot, I had to take it.

You’re going to be busy anyway the next three days with a Europe’s biennial ass kicking of our golfers.

That tilted me so hard when he didn't go all in on that DD.

HOW ARE PLAYERS SO BAD AT THE BASIC STRATEGY OF THIS GAME??????????? (My guess is that under the bright lights and TV cameras he got nervous and decided to play it safe. Or maybe he thought that since he was doing so well in the early part of the game he didn't need to play aggressively)

Matt seemed slow on the buzzer today. I assumed that college student would a) be fast on the buzzer (he was decent) and b) know about game strategy and how to play the game (he didn't)

Besides that it was a good, competitive episode.

He even fist pumped when he got the DD, and was obviously a sports fan.

It's also not even a James Holzhauer situation where players walked into the green room to find out who they played against and got an unpleasant surprise. Getting introduced to a guy in his 30th game with 2.4 million in winnings is probably a pretty big shock to most. None of his episodes had aired before his run was over.

OTOH, everyone playing in the first couple weeks of this season is well aware of the possibility of playing against a guy who racked up 18 (?) wins last season. They watched his episodes and know his style. They know he has a couple weaker categories like sports, movies/pop music/TV and bible stuff. It's not too difficult to figure out what strategy to play against him. Obviously doesn't mean you're going to win and maybe you don't even make it to FJ. But at least give yourself the best shot at winning.

The person to beat him will be Jeopardy-famous no matter what happens next. Emma Boettcher got into the tournament of champions as a 3 game winner so they could pit her against James again. That netted her an additional $100k.

My ranking of the Jeopardy hosts that I've seen:

1) CNBC guy
2) Joe Buck
3) Mayim Bialik
4) Mike Richards
5) Levar Burton

If Mayim got the full time gig, I would be cool with that.

I wonder if other contestants will start using Matt's strategy of answering every question with "What's..." It seems like the correct strategy. He said in an interview that it saves him mental energy because he can completely focus on the answer and not also the secondary step of thinking of the proper interrogative word.

Though seeing as so many contestants don't understand basic concepts such as "prioritize high value clues when you have control" and "be aggressive with your DDs" I have my doubts that there will be many people that do this.

I hope someone takes Jeopardy's "as long as it's a question it is correct" rule to it's logical conclusion by using non sequitur interrogative words. "Why is...?" "Are you...?" or even something completely ridiculous like "Did you know that I went to the supermarket and saw....?"

Just saw the one where Matt beat Sanjay.
Amazing for Matt to hit the daily double with Matt leading 10,400 to 9,500

He also gives the shortest acceptable answer erring on being too short. He knows the host will tell him if they want more.

That creates a lot of situations where the host has to provide the full question for the audience to avoid confusion. Like when he answers “what’s energy” and Mayim says “that’s right, what is the department of energy”.

I don’t mind that at all but it seems like a lot of people do.

i think there is a rule about how the questions must be formed. nitbo can chime in. probably what, who, where...is it yankees? is not acceptable iirc

This is something discussed on jboard on occasion and there’s really no rule other than your answer must be phrased in the form of a question. So yes, you could say “is it Yankees?”

Occasionally something like this happens and the contestant gets credit for a correct answer. However I tend to think that if a contestant made a habit of it they would quash it pretty quick. Kind of like when they told James he couldn’t write hellos to people under his answer in FJ.

It is yeah. And he got 74K on like his 7th win. I think those are his top 2.
