I didn't understand Ankit's FJ wager either. I'll bet quite a lot of my stack, but not enough to put me in the lead?

What am I missing?

The leader has to make a small cover bet in case he doubles up which would drop her behind Ankit on a miss, which is what happened. While his wager was not GTO, ($7600 shows the highest winning chances) it’s not a huge mistake because the leader hardly ever wagers $0 in this spot.

$4800 is probably another option to win it on WRx if Mara bets $1401+; win it on WWW (and at least tie Becky on WWR) if Mara does something really stupid and lock in $2k for second place if I'm wrong and Mara doesn't do anything stupid.

Would be absolutely crazy for them to announce a permanent replacement before the last 5 guest hosts have their shows aired.

Re: Idiotic Jeopardy wagers (no spoilers before 6 EST)

Thanks for the explanation guys. I think I get it a little more. Good thing I'll never be on Jeopardy to worry about this, and will remain a recfish at poker.

Also think Mayim started great, and has went down a little. The giggles mentioned above. Also, nobody cares that your junior high school was named after one of yesterday's answers.

Finally, not sure why I double-posted above. Can a mod please delete one?

Hmm I thought she settles down. I’m 3 episodes into this week. Does she get overly giddy again?

A lot of recent champions in the “I can’t believe I just won” category today as far as reaction.

I have to agree with you. I really liked her initially, but she started annoying me by the end of the first week.

Her comments pregame and pre DJ/FJ had little variety, but her blatant brag regarding her "presentation skills" and education at the end last night, convinced me she would be a bad choice.

Polar opposite of Alex's self-deprecating humor.

Re: Idiotic Jeopardy wagers (no spoilers before 6 EST)

"Come on guys...Ferdinand!" I had no idea either.

She did come off a little "I'm smarter than the players" sometimes.

To be fair, she did admit earlier in her hosting that she didn't know the answer either on a no guess. I'm sure it wasn't an ego thing, just not being self-deprecating like Kurn mentioned.

I don't know if Buzzy would want the job but I think he's been the best replacement host so far imo.

tbh, my favorite so far is Aaron Rodgers*. Completely different delivery than people trying to sound like a game show host.

Even his brag was subtle, mentioning how astronaut Mark Kelly "finished 2nd on celebrity Jeopardy!" and leaving it at that.

*I'm still on Team LeVar Burton. But there's a wager involved, so of course.

Re: Idiotic Jeopardy wagers (no spoilers before 6 EST)

We had my wife's grandparents stay with us last week. First episode we watched together they told me how much they and their friends loved Buzzy.

To my surprise they didn't like Ken, I thought he was a hit with the older crowd.
Not to my surprise they think the job should definitely go to a guy because women generally do bad with hosting shows. I didn't tell them that Savannah Guthrie was up next, not even sure if they know her though. NBC news is probably not their cup of tea.

Did I see correctly that the last 5 guest hosts (after Sanjay Gupta) each get one week only?

Why do you hate Women of Science. Science Science Science. Did you know she actually has a degree in Science? She's super smart. Women need role models in Science.

Scores going into final:
Emily: 10800
Trenton: 6800
Elaine: 16200

So Trenton obviously bets 3201 to make sure he doesn’t accidentally win on a W/W/R.

10,000 is a nice round number and he can beat any score of 10,000. That there is some second

Re: Idiotic Jeopardy wagers (no spoilers before 6 EST)

On today's show, after Michael rebounds a Jessica $2000 miss on the fourth last clue, the less-than-one-minute warning sound plays. Scores at that point:

Michael: 14000
Jessica: 3200
Emily: 4200

3 clues left on the board, $400, $1600, $2000 and there's a good chance they won't be able to play all three. If DJ is over after two of the three clues, Michael has a lock unless he does something stupid like an incorrect answer or picking a clue that's not the $400 one. Well..

After Emily answers the $1600 clue, she picks the $2000 but doesn't ring in even though in that situation a random guess is better than not answering at all. Especially since the only negative outcome of answering incorrectly is the unlikely scenario of Jessica getting the rebound which means they switch positions before FJ.

Re: Idiotic Jeopardy wagers (no spoilers before 6 EST)

Anybody watch the most recent episode of The Chase? One of the contestants identified herself as going for redemption since she was on Jeopardy! once, knew all the answers but couldn't figure out "the buzzer thing."

The difference between 2nd and 3rd is $1,000, you expect her to piss that away?
