And so much neon. It sure has come a long way.

While they're in this "going to the vaults" mode, I'm hoping they get permission as necessary and slide the episode of Cheers where Clavin goes on Jeopardy! in there for fun.

The close up of the board when they were showing the categories was hilarious. Just a mess of plywood, exposed neon tubes, and completely drenched in glitter. The carpeted podiums were a nice touch too.

The weirdest thing was how they accepted everyone's final jeopardy answer when they may all be ruled wrong today.

New season starts tomorrow. Show currently has restrictions on where contestants are coming in from so it will be a while before we see the returning champion. Three fresh contestants tomorrow.

And our first game has our first loss of the season due entirely to timid DJ wagering. Way to go Mr Astronomer.

Holy Sh-t this Kelly lady from Wednesday, was she an SNL skit?

What's the general feeling about the "welcome Ken Jennings to the Jeopardy! team" comment by Alex on Monday?

Alex neither looks good nor sounds good.

I think Ken's on the team to step in when Alex can no longer answer the bell.

Person got Tuesdays FJ wrong for incorrect spelling?

People seem mad, sounds like there is a new judge maybe. Fortunately didn't affect the outcome.

Requiring correct pronunciations is discriminatory, anyway.

Super annoying. She was introduced as an actress, I kind of got the feeling she was trying to get noticed and was forcing the personality bit.

I just checked google for the correct response to Tuesday's FJ because I wasn't sure what Trebek said.

Correct response: Who is Berry Gordy?

Contestant's response: Who is Barry Gordy?

LOL. In what world is that marked incorrect? 2020 I guess.

I agree with the sentiment about Berry Gordy. Especially since everyone would spell it Barry if they knew the name only from hearing but not reading.

At first I thought that Kelly lady was kinda funny but it got annoying extremely fast. Thank God she didn’t win.

I think they mentioned that around the time of the announcement of Ken Jennings narrating Alex Trebek’s latest audiobook?

I think it’s highly likely that Ken would finish out the season if Alex can’t (or doesn’t want to) continue. What would happen after that is totally up in the air and probably depends on how well Ken is received by the audience.

We shouldn’t forget that before the new “boom” that started with Alex Trebek’s announcement of his diagnosis and was accelerated by James Holzhauers performance and the GOAT tournament, there was a decent possibility the show might end as soon as Trebek left.

Even though it sounds like Jennings' current role is just glorified Clue Crew guy, I imagine the idea is just to get him on the payroll and get him involved in production so that he can get brought up to speed.

While Trebek having to quit (or god forbid, just passing) mid-season would be a shame, it would probably be the best situation for trying out Jennings, they can paint it as an emergency decision and if he turns out to be meh, just have him ride out the season and thank him for stepping up and then get someone polished to start next season. Much better than if there's a ton of fanfare announcing Ken as the new host to start a season, then if he kinda sucks, you're in a weird spot.

The contestant that gave the answer posted in the Reddit thread. She said that Alex felt very strongly that it was wrong:

I'm not sure what logic could insist that Barry = Berry.

I agree with the decision.

You don't know what logic or refuse to acknowledge it?

"Barry" is a common name, "Berry" is not. "Who is Gordy" would likely have been accepted, In FJ, spelling only counts when it changes fundamental pronunciation or changes the meaning of the answer.

Was this ruling really, really strict? yes it was. Was is some form of discrimination? She was a native English speaker with no discernible accent or speech impediment.

Would I have been upset had she been ruled correct? No.

Give me your reasoning. I can change my mind.

So you do understand the logic if you think ruling it correct would have been ok.

Reasoning is self explanatory.

Jeopardy! rulings are often smh.

I'd be OK with it, because they run the show, they make the rules, but that doesn't make her answer 100% correct, because nobody named Barry Gordy was ever an exec in the music industry.

So maybe you're right, we know what she meant, so we give her credit.

According to that Reddit statement, Berry and Barry are pronounced the same way where she’s from.

One or two seasons ago, they accepted “Guillotine” even though the pronunciation isn’t even remotely close to the correct answer of “Guillotin”.

i've heard theoretically they would accept mediturainian

was trying to find video of the first alex episode ever

http://www.j-archive.com/showgame.php?game_id=173

they accepted all 3 but think all 3 may be ruled wrong today, think one wasn't even completely written out and the person just said what they meant

apparently the day had just been announced and didn't go in to affect for another couple years
