Alex seemed to be enjoying the moment, so we'll agree to disagree.

Seems filming is done and they are into reruns starting next week?

Not exactly. They have enough episodes in the can to last until the end of May. For whatever reason they announced a week ago they would show two weeks of reruns before going back to new episodes.

The two weeks will be 8 days of the GOAT tournament with the other 2 days being KJ’s first and last games of his original run.

This Sarah champ really grinds my gears.
Oh she’s so cute and zany how she just keeps talking over Alex and says her thought process, and second guesses

I hear Ken's first episode was on tonight. I wish I had know.

I wasn’t going to watch because it was supposed to be a replay of the GOAT tournament. But my dad watches and he called to tell me it was Ken but not the other champions, so I turned it on. Immediately obvious that it was a “retro” show. The set and board were completely different and dated looking (even though it was this century). It was also obvious it was his first appearance because he was in the middle position.

Ken played well, of course, but he didn’t blow away the field a la Holzhauer. The woman to Ken’s left was very good and nearly stopped his streak before it started.

KJ’s first regular season game aired Monday, his last will air next Friday. The GOAT episodes will air in between.

Re-watching the GOAT tournament with Rutter being a shadow of his former self reminded me of Willie Mays' embarrassing final season.

Yes, I'm that old.

rewatching this tourney too.

i do think KJ is the best ever by far on meaningful knowledge ..........

but one reason i thought james might win was his age and his great knowledge of pop culture. almost the same thing actually.

but did J tone down pop culture for this greatest tourney?...... haven't noticed that much, but i'd say yes.... will watch more closely tonight

So on Jeopardy today i think a contestant made a bad wager. Let me know what you think?

She was up to 18,800 and guy in 2nd buzzed on 2nd to last question but didnt have an answer which made him now have less than half of what she had. There was one question left for 400 on the board which guy in 2nd got right to give him exactly 9,400 half of hers and he laughed knowing it gave him a shot. I bet like me he thought it gave him a shot to tie as i think she should wager zero in final jeopardy as she still ties if he wagers all and gets it right. But she can't lose in final jeopardy if she doesn't wager anything. I forget rules in tie im sure you all know but i think this was her most viable option. I think unless it's a topic she very sure in why risk losing? He would have to beat you twice(or answer right twice while you only have to answer right in sudden death.)

She ended up risking 2200 answering wrong while he bet everything and got it right and won outright. Was this a foolish bet on her part? Also could go into bad beats thread him answering last question on board to have half then go on to win.

I missed when orignally aired but watched last week and think James ran bad. Not taking anything away from KJ who was great(there were going all in on daily doubles when he was ahead that seemed not optimal but admire his guts, like james not afraid to lay it on the line) and not sure whose actually better. But i think James ran bad because he was unlucky at the critical times that being DAILY DOUBLES! He was in control some days and kept getting the few questions he didnt know when he got the daily doubles destroying his scores. Also the guy in 3rd who barely ever answered a question always seemed to answer a question right then steal james opportunity at the daily double when James desperately needed them to catch up to KJ.

I'd like to see them do it again head up race to 10 or something to really decide who the champ is.

I noticed at the end of last night's episode, Alex said something like, "see you next time", instead of "tomorrow". Also seems like there was one other non-specific reference to the next show.

I wonder if that was the last pre-corona taping?

@DarkCheck

ties here

In the case of a tie, they do a sudden-death clue. So, I guess her strategy should have been based on how comfortable she felt with the category? If she feels good about it, bet something. If not, bet 0 and take your chances with the next category?

Interested to hear others' takes on strategy here.

My impressions on the rewatch:

1. When everybody hunts DDs, wagers correctly, and rejects top to bottom clue selection, the results are much more determined by luck and subject matter.

2. With the above in mind, Ken won because he was able to step out of his comfort zone with max wagers, and he clearly studied his opponents. His wager on the last FJ was clearly based on his knowledge the category was James' Achilles heel.

3. It also helped Ken that Brad hit a lot of DDs in DJ and missed, denying those opportunities to James.

Pretty sure i heard Alex say last week that will be all new episodes. Would be odd to air just one new one. I would think they have a batch of new ones.

Was y'day's episode new? My DVR automatically tapes new episodes, but it didn't record last night's.

It was a new episode, tons of people nationwide had the same issue with their DVR’s for some reason.

This week and next week’s episodes are the two days they taped with no studio audience and the last regular season games of the season. The new Teachers Tournament has yet to air as well.

Regarding ties, we have discussed that many times in detail in this thread. If you want details feel free to search. The short of it is wagering either $0 or $1 shows very similar winning chances. Any other wager is terrible.

I didn’t watch in January, so this was my first time.

I was shocked at how poorly Brad performed. I think he was getting smoked on the buzzer and looked frustrated, but he still managed to find a lot of Daily Doubles...and whiffed on most of them.

I think James’s aggressive style made both Ken and Brad uncomfortable, but Ken managed to adjust, even though it was obvious he doesn’t like betting it all.

I was hoping Brad would put up more of a fight. It’s strange, considering he had never lost before.

Why is wagering more than $1 bad, especially if you like the category? I mean obviously don't bet so much that you bring the 3rd player into the equation, but still.
