I was also thinking along the lines of social influencers. Lol what was the answer again? I can't even remember now.

Crowdfunding.

Yes my guess was influencers too

So, do we have enough winners to fully stock the ToC, or will we see Zero Game Winners make the cut?

Looks like we are are in the regular territory of 5 game winners getting in, and then taking the 5 top scoring 4 game winners. However should James continue s--t pumping, he could conceivably still be alive at the cut off date and roll into the following year, and 6 four game winners will be needed to complete the top 15. Interestingly enough, the current first player out has died in the interim. Jackie Fuchs (the ex-Runaway turned Lawyer) is just missing the cut.

For those who are also baseball fans, James was on the most recent Fangraphs podcast: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/effectiv...-sabermetrics/

Haven't listened yet but really looking forward to it.

Really good listen. His comment on children's books was interesting...Not an inclination I would have initially had, but totally makes sense.

"It was the first planet discovered in modern times; William Herschel thought it was a comet when he first saw it"

Two of the guesses are Pluto and Venus.

Venus not a horrendous guess. Pluto is just outright lol.

You can see Venus move with the naked eye. It is a horrendous guess.

"In modern times" makes it a horrible guess. A planet that you can see unaided would never have made it to modern times without being discovered.

if we're comparing bad guesses, pluto is definitely a much better guess than venus

Correct. A common knowledge of astronomy will have most people knowing that Mercury thru Jupiter have been known for thousands of years because they could be seen. Slightly more knowledge (which I expect these people to have) is that the last 3 planets were discovered in order of their distance.

venus = planet
pluto = not planet

that alone is enough to make pluto a worse answer.

It was considered a planet when it was discovered though, so I could see the thought process behind a contestant thinking that maybe the writers were getting cute and the answer was Pluto, even though it's no longer a planet.

that's like the question being:

This American man won the olympic gold medal at the 1976 men's decathlon in Montreal.

Why, if you just say "Who's Jenner" will Alex ask you for more detail?

Exactly. And Bruce Jenner is clearly a better answer than Jim Thorpe.

hope james’ run kills jeopardy leading to newer and improved game shows. seems like an insanely underpopulated market.
