If he hits 35 he's almost definitely a favorite to go >50 and if he hits 50 he's probably a favorite to beat KJ's record.
I don't think that is the point people were implying. The point is at what game number does the cumulative probability of 3% or so of him losing any one game (or whatever probability you assign it) pass 50%.

There's a tv game show in Spain called BOOM! that has had the same team winning for the lsat 460+ days (although one of the team members died along the way). The show basically lives off of them more than the other way around (to the point where a lot of folks are a bit suspicious). The point is just that these shows are competing for air time with survivor and big brother, so the "drama" of whether some contestant will continue is useful for producers.

Are you 8 year's old, ffs?? WTF about my mom? She is recovering from cancer, thanks..

I think the guy should stay as long as he can, obv.. You don't change rules mid-game... But if he beats Jennings (and I hope he does), then if he keeps going and going it is going to get tired. Jeopardy is not an interactive game, so it will become annoying at some point.

After that maybe cap it somewhere..

I'm seeing so many just horrendously idiotic takes about how bad he is for the game, how he's running the game, and how they need to get him off.

it seriously makes me lose what little hope I had for society.
Indeed. Ad revenue during Ken's run went way up. I assume the same thing is happening now.

People who hate this are very wrong on multiple levels.

Sort of like people who hate the Patriots for always being in the playoffs.

I don't think a cap is needed because dominant players like James and Jennings are few and far between. It is an event when you get a player like this. I'll bet their ratings are through the roof, and will be until he loses.

I mean I get the point that if a guy is literally so much better that he wins, say 300 games in a row, people might say enough already. But that is very unlikely to happen.

James will lose when he enters FJ without a lock and gets FJ wrong while the other gets it right. It may take a while but will happen. In the meantime I'm enjoying the show, I had stopped watching honestly, now it's must see TV again.

I think part of the problem with the people out there who want him off the show is that they are uninformed and many think he is angleshooting and has found some flaw in the system and exploiting it, and with that is somehow ruining the game.

What the average Joe is not getting is that his selecting and betting strategy is the easy part, and in only works well if you are in the top 1% of Jeopardy players knowledge-wise.

I am of the thinking that is is great to see a dominant player who is smart enough to not only maximize his winnings each day, but also maximize his chance to get out ahead of his competitor's and increase his chances of coming back the next day so that..... he can rinse and repeat.

You can't explain this to most people, but all 2+2 ers are going to get it.

That he is bad for the game because he has found some betting edge is, as people have noted, really dumb thinking.

My concern (once his beats Jennings) and if he keeps going on, is that people are going to tire of his question answering dominance. I don't think that is a dumb opinion to have.

Yeah, this will happen eventually, but so far he's only failed to enter FJ without a lock 10% of the time and has only missed FJ 5% of the time. Maybe he's running hot, but if that continues and he's really less than 1% to do both in the same game, we could be here awhile. And even then his opponent still has to get FJ right too, on what is probably an above average difficulty clue. He was "close" to losing on Monday, but not really when you consider he was still 90+% to get the FJ correct even after it was revealed that he needed it.

this isn't necessarily true. depending on the spread and 2nd place wagering correctly, eg. 0, will just require James to get FJ wrong.

Imagine 35k vs 25k. James will 100% of the time bet >15k. If 2nd place bets > 5k, well that's what this thread title is all about.

He must really like the Paris to Dakar rally as I am pretty sure he has used that as a wrong answer twice now.

Yeah, first one the answer was Tour de France. One of these days the FJ category is going to be "European Endurance Races" and he's going to be the only one to get it wrong.

Or it'll be one of the single/double jeopardy categories and he's going to get all five of them wrong

I like how Alex talks about his surge in popularity even though the shows were taped many weeks ago. After about ten wins he mentioned that James was a star. He knew even back then that J! success gets noticed.

I didn't get it either, since the clue included 2008 I was tracking towards "Mortgage Backed Securities".

It's a ****ty quote to use. “one part social networking and one part capital accumulation”

It's not really social networking and "capital accumulation" is a terrible word to use to describe selling something in a pre-sale.

That said, James did well to come up with the "best fit" answer even if the clue sucks.

My guess was blogging. I thought I had a little equity.

How James pulled that one out though was impressive.
