The other guy last night had to be the worst contestant ever. I'd wager his daughter took the test for him.

That guy gets on the show and I can't?

Oh, well, 12 days until the online test.

Catching up on episodes. Current champ gave “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” response to a clue about a parade in NYC down 5th Ave with the category being “March”.

So yeah, not too impressed with this guy even though he’s a winner.

Don't forget that at auditions you take another 50 question test to insure no posers slip through.

But yeah, even so there are still plenty of not very good contestants.

Fair enough, but they also put you through practice games to make sure you don't wilt under pressure.

I guess for some, being on stage causes a different level of nerves.

At the auditions they aren't really practice games, just three people at the front of a meeting room with fake buzzers watching a video of about 15 clues while a contestant coordinator randomly calls on someone to answer.

So while it's somewhat of a trial run, it's nothing like being on the actual set.

I don't bring these details up to argue or anything because it is hilarious when players who get through auditions lay an egg when it counts. But think it's important for everybody to know the procedures that contestants go through.

I also think the date was in the 1800s. Pretty sure Macy's wasn't around then.

Macy’s had a pretty big celebration for their 150th birthday, like ten years ago.

Didn’t Isidor Strauss, owner of Macy’s, die on the Titanic? By that time, they already had their flagship store on Harald Square.

The Macy's parade started in 1924.

Of course, it was never in March.

March + Parade = St. Patty's Day in any rational mind, though

Took me almost until the very last second to come up with Frankenstein even though I've been to Frankenstein Castle at least ten times.

Even though Alex pronounced it wrong. It’s franken-steen not stine.

That's not true. It is franken-stine (or stayn), unless Mary Shelley decided to pronounce it differently than the German word "Stein". Frankenstein translates to "stone of the Franks".

Well I saw both a movie and a broadway show that clearly emphasized Steen. So there.

They are certainly allowed to pronounce it whichever way they want to and as I said, maybe Mary Shelley wanted it that way.

But the German word "Stein" is pronounced stayn. I grew up an hour away from Frankenstein Castle and am generally pretty confident in my ability to speak my native language.

Wasn’t my original joke, I was just attempting to make a reference to young Frankenstein scene. Funny on screen/stage. Not so much in print unless you get the reference and think of the scene.

Jan (Grant) Berenstain just had a plaque dedicated at a park in our community. She graduated high schools here in 1941. My wife does history stuff locally and helped find something for a book about her or something. But notice the spelling -STAIN.
