A "super champion" should not have missed Our Town.

Regarding the ToC - I was under the impression that it already taped and will be shown in November-December. Might be wrong about that? So depending on a number of factors (when the ToC was taped, how long Austin's streak is), Austin might not even be in the next ToC.

Saw Austin this morning on GMA, new haircut makes him look way less eccentric, like a totally different person.

Two awful guesses today given the phrasing of FJ.

Kind of funny that Austin's guess was taco and the episode aired on National Taco Day.

Pretty sure they know when the episode is going to air.

They have to. Alex always mentions what day they are on.

Austin was surprisingly unfocused yesterday. First he said he forgot the last name in the Lieberman category that only looked for a first name and later he answered Piemont in a category that was called Maps "R" us..

Alex obviously knows, but the subject of tacos never came up Alex's speeches if I'm not mistaken?

Did Austin look up the date beforehand and and see that it was National Taco Day and then use it as a throwaway answer, did he know it already for some reason, or did he just randomly happen to answer taco. I guess the first seems likely.

Edit: He said on Twitter that he didn't know it would be aired on National Taco Day

he makes mistakes like this quite often, but in fairness it was the last taping of the day. clutch FJ.

When a contestant gets the call for taping they are naturally given the tape date but also the air date. Those understanding how the game is played will always check on special events for that date. At taping, before taping begins, there is a monitor showing the air date.

His knowledge base is very good but not great and has obvious gaps. But this should show just how much of a weapon proper wagering strategy is.

The Typhoid Mary question at $1,200 was way way too easy, seemed like a $400.
Austin $5K DD’d it

The 2 contestants today were literally no competition

The woman's $2k wager on final DD when she's trailing by several thousand was horrendous , even Alex questioning tone "just two thousand ?" emphasized what a stupid bet it was.
Despite seeing it over and over , it still amazes me that people smart enough to get on the show can be so dense when it comes to finding a winning strategy

your normal person is so terrible that it makes viewers think Austin is some strategic savant (when he is actually pretty awful at most elements of it)

Yeah, I just looked at the numbers and told the girlfriend it's either a misleading question or a really easy one.

I was shocked that the judges gave Austin snipe. In the past, they have absolutely ruled against players for that. As quickly as Trebek said correct, even though it wasn't in past tense, it was obvious that the judges had already discussed beforehand to have snipe be a correct answer. Very shocked, especially since if Austin gets it wrong, the door is open for him to be beaten in FJ.

You guys ignored this question last week, but I bring it up again because:

I google'd "What was final jeopardy today?", and found this helpful episode recap site: https://thejeopardyfan.com

Yeah, I thought it kinda easy, but I could imagine being in a room full of people who wouldn't know it.

But back to my point: while I had that site up, I looked at the last ten FJ questions, and most of them were laughably easy:

--A novel that takes place in the year (1945+39)?
--A movie actor famous for playing Shakespeare leads?
--A play with a Narrator that's set in New England?

I got 8 out of 10 (the "Ancient Regions" one was tough, but my wild guess got there; and the "4th largest city" one was aided by the memory of an unusual billboard featured in the opening credits of Welcome Back Kotter, lol), and the two I missed, I was in the ballpark (I got one of the two countries required; I knew the artist's work, but not his name).

So I ask again, as someone who hasn't watched the show in a long long time: is Jeopardy easier than it used to be?

BTW, did this song at karaoke recently, made a lot of people smile.

Interesting enough, I thought the Brooklyn and Monaco&Mongolia FJs were among the easiest in recent memory, except for 1984 and Sepia today.

No. I've watched and auditioned multiple times in the last 25 years and don't think it's any easier. The subject matter however is slightly different than say 20 years ago. Back then it was entirely classical, straightforward knowledge, what's the capital of Burundi, who wrote Gravity's Rainbow, etc. Nowadays there's more pop culture, wordplay, and common knowledge questions.

So perhaps you are better at ciphering out questions vs. straight trivial knowledge. Or it could be just a small sample size.

I don't think he should have gotten credit for Sleep Number. The clue asked for the maker, which is Select Comfort. Sleep Number is the model.
