Interesting situation in tonight's game
Champ has 10200
leader has 11, 700
third has 7200
Champs gets DD on what turns out to be last clue of DJ , he bets 5700 answers correctly answers and wins match .
Wondering what others made of his wager , considering also it was in fairly obscure category about Simon Bolivar

Seemed like he bet the max he could while staying in contention for FJ with a single get. I like a player who uses some strategy. Any strategy.

love it. Takes lead big enough to stay above 3rd if he cover bets and misses FJ. Small enough to stay in contention.
At first I thought Austin had good strategy, now I think he just bets random large amounts (which admittedly is a better strategy than always bet 2000). There was a situation where I thought he risked too much because he already had a big runaway and a miss would have brought the other two back into the contention. Not the worst mistake though esp if you're confident.
I haven’t been paying a ton of attention, but I think he semi-frequently bets too much. And that has to be the only time I’ve ever been able to say that about a contestant.
He buzzes in and gets stuff wrong a surprisingly high amount of time, and he’s clearly not all time elite level. But this is by far the most entertaining run of episodes since the AJ/Matt TOC.
After 4 days I’m officially sick of his trying way way way too hard to be zany/eccentric act.
And you know his reaction to “The Eagles” answer was solely based on thinking the Big Lewbowski rules, Brah!

he is running really good with these joke easy DDs, especially when he gets a lot of stuff wrong on regular clues. was tilting watching him pick a $200 clue in SJ with the daily double still out there. he is fun to watch but I’m expecting him to come unstuck very soon.
(ehh maybe I am being too harsh re: DDs. They definitely have been jokes, but it’s interrsting that he is now 5/5 on FJ, with 4 of those being sole gets. it’s possible he just brain farts on regular clues but is way better with more time)
I caught the last few minutes of DJ yesterday, first time I've seen the show in forever--and I was mopping up, nailing question after question.
I've never been any good at the bottom half of the board in DJ, and when I realized that, I quit trying out for the show.
My question: Is Jeopardy easier now than it used to be? Or was this just a case of me running good? Because these questions seemed way too easy to be the end of DJ.
(I would've got FJ too, if they accepted for an answer, "Who is the guy who painted American Gothic?")
I like betting big there but since $16,401 is one of Amy's more likely bets, surely $32,800 is better than $34,000.
I thought FJ was very easy & was astonished she got it incorrect. I also thought the 2nd DD (Which man from Greek mythology was noted for his handsomeness?) was very easy and suspect Austin of slowrolling (maybe he just wanted to take max time to be sure but that seems so obvious).
Agree. His aggression is sloppy. Of course he has to miss but he will eventually and someone late in a week that's watched 3-4 taping might bet accordingly to beat him. So I'm calling my shot-Thursday this week.

He will get toasted in TOC.
man you should enjoy Austin while he here cause when he loses it back to boring bets on dailydoubles and same ole sole.Austin makes jeopardy fun and i'm going to enjoy him aslong as he here.

Spoiler:
Prior to the season, they ran promos of a couple Trebek comments about a new super champion, and given his run so far, it seems very likely that those comments were referencing Austin. Based on that, Thursday is the earliest that he can possibly lose. Not so sure he won't win the TOC either, his actual knowledge is extremely impressive (12/13 on DDs, 6/6 on FJs).
And I'd much rather see someone overwager and win big than see someone consistently underwager and luckbox into multiple wins.
I don't know why. He doesn't seem buzzer/knowledge elite outside of DD and FJ and he takes full advantage by wagering accordingly. Truly elites lock almost every game by choking their opponents by maintaining control of the board.
I'd say at 250k level he is already a super champion.
Totally concur I'd rather watch a lion than a mouse. But he is going to step on a thorn at some point due to an over eager for the situation.
