Easiest FJ for a while, surprised only two contestants got it.

Disagree. East to figure out what the sentence was, but either you know the book or you don't. No way to solve it...

Unless you can deduce best of times = one city and worst of times = another city.

I'd like to hear from others but imo it's a top 5 most famous opening line in literature. My instinct is it's the single most famous opening line & a quick google suggests I may be right:

http://www.ranker.com/list/100-famou...nes/info-lists

If you don't know the answer it's pretty much impossible to guess but ... I expect the vast vast majority of people good enough to qualify for Jeopardy & put up a decent score before FJ to know the line.

Yeah I've never read the book and am usually awful at novel related clues, but I got it easily.

There was a clown, a bloodthirsty clown. And he lured young children into the sewer and swallowed them whole!

Frasier Crane's version does hold the attention of the average human better than Dickens.

Agreed that it was the easiest FJ in quite a while.

Agreed. It would be like a FJ clue of "The French version of this classic book starts 'Je suis Ishmael'. Also, it's a book about a whale. Good luck, contestants. You have 30 seconds."

FJ was so easy I correctly guessed the right answer when the category was given.

No joke. When they give the category of the final question I make a guess. Novels was so broad I couldn't believe I got it right. But I fist pumped when the clue came out.

3rd time I think I have gotten it right. Once was with toys which was GI Joe. The other was Movies and The Bible. I'll give you a big hint there, I correctly deduced that the fact it wasn't Biblical movies was key.

Pulp Fiction? Something about how someone quotes something from the bible that actually isn't in the bible?

Just looked it up, that's what the Ezekiel 25:17 means. Gotcha gotcha.

Yeah most famous first line with an absurdly easy translation? That's why you always have to wager to cover from 1st imo. How could you live with yourself if you got cute and that turned out to be the FJ? And it's not like they're uncommon.

Two very cringeworthy moments tonight, the second much worse than the first.
First one, last clue of DJ and the middle guy gets the Daily Double. He's down 2700, he wagers 2000. JFC dude, either wager enough to put yourself in the lead or if you're reaaaally not feeling the category then just bet a buck or something.

Other moment, FJ clue about the year the dept of energy was created, the first woman drove in the Indy 500, and a Prez was sworn in under a nickname. Even if you have no idea about ANY of it, you should have the basic knowledge of putting down a year that a Prez was sworn in. But both the idiot in the middle and the one on the right put years that presidents were elected, but not sworn in. Far right guy put 2008, I don't remember what middle idiot put. Does far right guy honestly think the dept of energy has only been around for 11 years?? fml

I believe that would be nine years. Also, does he think someone would use Barack to run for President if it weren't his real name? And moronic FJ wagers from second and third. But maybe we're holding the teachers of our youth to too high of standards.

This one was fairly irrelevant. The only thing he can't do here is bet too much where if he's wrong he can't double up at FJ to 15k or whatever a solid wildcard amount is. Iirc he left himself with about 9k for FJ.
Really there's no difference in FJ between like 7-13k. You should just shove, barring any chances you could win your episode based on other contestant amounts.

Derp. 9 years. Yeah.

Those were ridiculous guesses. The part about the President should have made it somewhat easy. Just start with 2017 and count back four years a bunch of times. Which means it must be an odd year barring special circumstances. Major LOL at guessing 2008.

Guy in the middle guessed 1950....

I didn't know the answer, but guessed '93 thinking that maybe Clinton was sworn in as Bill instead of William. Same reasoning as Carter I suppose, but the teacher who did get it correct seemed confident in her answer in a way that made me think this is some well known factoid about Carter.

1950 guy was probably thinking Ike. And 2008 guy probably had Danica Patrick creep into his head and couldn't shake it. Still the even numbered years, sigh...

2008 is just terrible because obviously the Dept. of Energy has been around for more than 9 years.
