What was the question... What was the joke

Every night before FJ there is an Aleve commercial where the J! announcer reads an answer, the question to which is "what is Aleve?"

I may have missed something, but I'm pretty sure Brennan did not successfully ring in once during the Jeopardy round. If so, that's incredible...has to be the first time I've ever seen that. It looked like he was trying to get in on a lot of clues, but Alex was just murdering on the buzzer. My God, that must have been frustrating.

Kudos to Brennan for making a run in Double Jeopardy. He made it interesting until Alex got the second Daily Double.

The thought of Alex practicing his buzzing with the toilet paper roll holder is pretty hilarious.

To me, the turning point of the game was when Vaughn blew the cake Daily Double in the first round:

Category - Bible Books
Clue - Something about the two Old Testament books that refer to lofty positions

Spoiler:
Judges, Kings, LDO

B & V were already getting smoked, but Vaughn could have closed the gap and made things interesting there. After that, Alex steamrolled them for the rest of the round. I don't think I've ever seen that big of a lead heading into Double Jeopardy (11,600 to 2,800 to 0).

Vaughn is a good player. I'm surprised he didn't put up more of a fight.

Yes, it is the poker player Alex Jacob

Matt Jackson and Alex were the two big favorites entering the tournament. It will surely be a battle between them for the title. Jackson would be considered the favorite, but it will likely come down to buzzer speed and you never really know who has that advantage until they go head to head. You can see Jackson go tonight.

The TP holder makes a lot of sense. Can't wait for the 2 day buzzer battle with big DD wagers. (assuming Matt crushes tonight).

It's good the see them significantly raising the difficulty level of the questions, and even better that Alex seems to have no problem adjusting up. Though I would think Matt would do okay with it also.

Hopefully they amp it up even a couple more degrees for the finals so it's not just a pure buzzer race. And ffs come up with two good FJ questions.

Spoilers below for the later time zones:

Matt crushed it, of course - massively disappointed in Catherine that she did not jam all in on that $2k DD, but not surprised; it's so hard to play optimally. I wonder how aggressive Alex Jacob will be - I think Matt's the superior player and that Alex should be super aggro even on Day 1 when he hits Daily Doubles. Try to force Matt into suboptimal plays (like e.g. betting a lot on FJ on Day 1 to try to make up a gap).

lol Matt getting a little excited on that DD

Catherine might have killed it if she had any buzzer skills, she was attempting to ring in on virtually every question and wasn't missing answers.

Should be a good final and I think AJ will be aggressive on DDs, but don't agree that he has to be aggro to win. I think he can go toe to toe with him.

that game was great competition until matt hit his second DD and matt knew he had legit competition and to put it away on that clue. Think Catherine would have been the optimal third in the final with Alex and Matt, really liked her. The other dude did well too. Excited for the final.

I actually think Alex is better than Matt. Feel like Matt relies on momentum a bit more than Alex and can disappear from games at times when his buzzer timing gets off and he's missed a few. I'd bet on Alex over Matt to win. Hoping the clues are super hard.

The funny face that Matt made during the intros was bizarrely funny.

When do Matt and Alex face off?

Next two days. Individual games. Best total score wins.

I think a couple pop culture categories in DJ could favor Alex. I doubt we'll see any more sports, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple movie categories, maybe even one in FJ.

Agree, I think Matt would dominate in insect mating patterns, but AJ would own pop culture categories.

Thats right, there was some pop knowledge stuff one learns by watching nick at night, etc. that was not part of young Matt's life education.

Yeah just the way Alex answered Zoolander you could tell he had obviously seen the film, but when Matt does those jazz hands when answering Cabaret, it's like he's mimicking something he's read (or watched because it's a "classic"). Could make a difference. And if they do bring back a sports category, Alex should be really good.

Maybe I don't remember Matt's run well enough, but it sure seemed like he knew those musicals from enjoying them, not from reading about them.

Agree that he's a giant dog on sports.

fwiw on recent performances i agree with all this though it's super hard to know until they are face to face. AJ's buzzer performance yesterday was insane. matt's today was very hit and miss.

The "YES!" when finding the Daily Double and another "YES!" when answering correctly were pretty tilting. Act like you've been there before. It's cool to be excited, and I'd probably be pretty jazzed to play for that amount of money too, but that makes you come across like a d-bag.

Hence the Matt haters. There's something a little off-putting about him.

Then again, Alex (J.) is pretty condescending with the eye rolls and whatnot, so maybe I'm just jealous of all of them.

I think my favorite contestant in this tournament was Michael, the young kid Alex took down in the quarters. He was good. Tough draw I guess.

I'm actually get a little annoyed by how Alex gives his answers than the way Matt acts. Alex always sounds like he's really unsure of himself, and to me it sounds like an act.

Meh, to each his own. I like both of them. If the mannerisms are gamesmanship, that's fine. Nothing wrong with making your opponents think they have no chance.
