And that early DJ shove when he had almost a $2K lead was so ****ing boss.

4k isn't terrible - there was time to recover from it and if he gets it right he's clinched the game - but I feel like i would've bet an amount that still puts me 2x ahead of 2nd place, given that it's a category that seems tricky and he hadn't seen any of the clues yet. I barely thought of XXXIX on my couch, so yeah, that is some big-time runbad.

He may have stalled for the max time just to try to run the clock as far as possible without seeming like he is stalling.

His strategy is GOAT. I hope he knows enough stuff to crush.

Turned on the show today and saw him and was like, wait, where do I know this dude...

He's the best, hands in pockets, leaning on the podium. His little hand motion when he bet it all, facial expressions, etc
The reaction to the Roman numeral was great, wanted to say "what the ****..."

Twitter thinks he's a douche or has Asbergers, lol.

to be fair I saw quite a bit of very positive reaction on Twitter from the masses.

Knew he looked familiar. He's responded to a couple of posts on the J-board. Expect he will explain the $4,000 wager reasoning at some point.

Kind of a mixed response, some thinking he was running a 4 corners offense on the 2nd DD, but I just thought he was trying to do the math in his head and finally just picked something that made the lockout highly (but not guaranteed) likely if he hit and still reasonably possible if he missed. I don't get the sense he got all the way through the calculations....

I loved it when he started taking his time, then picking the low dollar clues late in the game when he had the runaway

I had no idea he was on this week. Awesome performance, as he clearly isn't making the same stupid mistakes 99% of other contestants are. Yes, the $4K bet is probably incorrect, but they also boned him on the answer.

The highlight IMO: Alex saying "I'll just bet it all" in the most monotone voice ever. What a boss.

My girlfriend and I really enjoyed watching Alex's performance. We both loved his reaction to missing the $4k daily double, it was just so perfect. Also we kept thinking he was stoned.

Loved the hand push when he bet it all on the first DD.

Was expecting a $200 wager on the final DD. Rough category.

That Roman Numeral question was ****ed up. Not only did they include a RN in the "answer", it was the year the *book* "The Thirty-Nine Steps" was published, rather than the much more popular Hitchcock film.

So if you were trying to break down MCMXV and realized "****, that year is before talkies" you might legit stall on an answer. Then to have to put 39 into RNs? AJ's "wtf is this BS" laugh is pretty legit there.

My mom is a religious Jeopardy! watcher and I was visiting her, this episode comes on and I go "wow, I think this guy is a poker player!" And he was :O

I didn't see them introduce the categories for double jeopardy, did Trebek say that answers had to be given in Roman numerals for that category?

Also I loved how he stalled to lock up the runaway game, that's some high level **** right there

Trebek did say it when he read the categories. I think it's still kind of unfair to put a DD in that category, though, especially with a clue like that.

Just watched it, didn't clue in right away who he was (mostly because I remembered him as having a superfro) but remembered as soon as Alex said he was a poker player in the interview. Hope he can go on a long run.

I can't hate on the DD clue, only because I love anything Roman numeral-related (that initials to Roman numerals to numbers category in the Decades tournament is one of my favourites ever) and actually got it right. I can see how hitting that exact clue in that exact spot would cause problems, though.

Fail to see what was so difficult about the Roman Number DD. Like most clues, you gotta cut through a bunch of useless words and focus on the key. How hard is 39?

That being said, I've recorded and labeled all the Super Bowls for probably 20 years, so I've certainly written out XXXIX for 39.

But like lots of clues, any one can be easy for one, impossible for another. And vice versa on the next clue.

I think it's pretty great to punish players who daily double hunt, actually. Not that that isn't an optimal strategy - of course it is - but from the show's perspective it isn't. I guess the odds that someone is DD hunting and stumbles on that is rather low - most players don't do it - but that's the gamble you take when you do do it.

I'm surprised that correctly answering less than 1/3 of the clues per game is considered good. I've never thought about how many each person is getting right. That just seems low.

Yes, she tilts the hell out of me.

The challenger you're referring to with the $12,000 wager was also irritating. She seemed to have a good strategy, going straight across in rows to hunt Daily Doubles. However, the way she was doing it annoyed me for some reason, probably because I'm a hostile and intolerant person.

The Spanish NBA Team Names category was much more difficult than I anticipated. I usually expect to snap-sweep any sports-related category, but for some reason, a couple of those stumped me, including the Daily Double that she found.

Spoiler:
Denver Nuggets - I knew that "oro" means gold, but I still blanked.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the first person to guess got it "right." Maybe the second person.

The clue still makes zero sense to me, and I'm still not clear what Alex was apologizing for. You'd think if they screwed up a clue, which he said they did, he might provide a correction or explanation.

So that's 2 days and 2 non-bets on Final Jeopardy questions - I wonder if Alex went through all the FJs and measured his ability to answer them and on certain subjects he thinks he's -EV so he won't bet anything unless he has to? Either way, a dominating performance.

Pretty boss, love how he got the dog playing poker clue.

Flipped switched late in the game selecting only the smallest dollar clues.

Hopefully he's already married, otherwise missed an opportunity to propose via FJ.
