Bill Murray having a top sitcom was about as good a guess as Joe Montana finishing his career on the Broncos or boxer LaMotta's first name being Tom.

Clearly no NFL fans, not even the champ, who reminded me of a young Bill Belichick.
Also, that's was more clues left untouched in DJ than I've seen in a long while.

i was a bit disappointed when the dude got the DD in the "movie references" category which he had ran up to that point and made such a weak wager.
he obv had a strong base of knowledge for that category. such poor wagering.

have to say it would be my wet dream to get on jeopardy and have categories about sports and movies.
combine that with the super easy FJ and good lord ship the $$$.

More tilting wagers all over the place this week. What's the point of hunting for Daily Doubles if you're going to wager like a pansy when you find one?

Also, from Wednesday's show:

1) Leaving 5-6 clues uncovered is inexcusable, and infuriating.

2) Dear God, they were clueless on the Last NFL Team category. It's a good indication of how pretty much any sports category is an open invitation to run the table against average Jeopardy contestants. I thought the clues would just be the players' names, but with the added hints, it was a cakewalk.

Yeah, he was locked in, and had an extremely douchey and condescending "I'm smarter than all of you" tone of voice going. Then he finds the Daily Double at the bottom of his wheelhouse category and bets like a clown. WTF.

This. The sports categories are LOL-easy for even a casual fan.

How did this thread not get bumped tonight? First place doesn't make a covering wager, but bets enough so that if he gets it wrong, he loses to 2nd place wagering 0. However, not only does second place not bet 0, he bets so much that he got passed by third place who he should have had locked out with a rational wager, but not enough to have caught first place's tiny wager had they both gotten it right. At least third place realized that she needed to bet big to pass first place had he gone with the usual lock out wager, so props to her.

We failed to bump because it's getting tiring seeing and saying the same **** every day. Lots of trivia knowledge, no logic when it comes to (FJ) wagering.

What about the 2nd DD in DJ? It was hit on about clue #5 by the player in 2nd with ~4800 and the leader at 5k. If choosing to bet anything more than $5, isn't this an easy all in, with almost the entire board still available? (He bet $1000)

1st I think was trying to level 2nd (read about Shore's conjecture on the Jboard or J-archives)--trying to win on WW and hoping 2nd realizes they can't win on RR and so 2nd is going to bet small. I think it works like:

13,400
10,300 (2x is 20,600)
4,800 (2x is 9,600)

1sts cover bet is at least 7,200, so 1st's cover bet miss is 6,200

1st then calculates that if 2nd recognizes they "should" bet small, then 2nd should wager no more than 700 (to remain above the larger of 1st's cover bet miss of 6,200 or 3rd's double up of 9,600.

So 1st's bet of 3,333 is in the range of beating 2nd if they miss on a small wager.

Note this does give up some win equity when 2nd bets big and gets it right.

I saw some numbers where it can actually increase win %--1st gives up some RR wins, but gains WW wins and the net is positive in some situations.

I'm not sure I fully buy into this (and hope I understand/explained it OK). Especially in this game...

If first wants to get fancy here I think with 2nd's rational bet being so small, 1st is essentially making the game about 2nd getting it wrong. A better bet for 1st is 2,400 or less (to stay above 2nd if they do the 700 wager). Since I don't ever trust 2nd to bet small, I'd cover bet from 1st.

And 2nd should just either shove or 0. 0- If they run into a 1st place that bets really small, then thats a bad beat. Shove--1st place seems to be offering the tie with some decent frequency this season.

I don't even care about the "reduced quality" of the contestants, it's that the questions are so godamn elementary. it's really boring to play along with.
but yes the recent level of contestants has been laughable.

A lot of people would laugh at your sub 20k and suggest that the "elementary" questions and upcoming teen tournament are right up your alley.

Guess an average Coryat depends on your sample, average person, average viewer, average contestant. I would guess yours is above the average person, about the same as the average viewer, and lower than the average contestant.

But really the only reason I said anything is that I get tired of seeing posters here sniping about how easy some questions are when they stand zero chance of passing the online test.

Admittedly, it is funny though how little the average contestant knows about sports.
