If anyone ever questions if there's variance in Jeopardy: Matt's on one of the best runs of all time with a 7 total that only trails James and Austin Rodgers. Yet he wouldn't even have won his first game if not for Josh missing the very last clue in DD. IIRC they were tied going into that final $400 clue.

On the final today he reads last place’s answer and then pauses like legitimately 4 seconds, and finally says no before fumbling the wager amount.

Can’t they just reshoot something like that?

David Faber, whoever that is, next week will look great by comparison

In Alex' book, he mentions reshoots when he made mistakes.

David Faber is a CNBC journalist.

I wouldn't be surprise if the permanent host isn't one of the guest hosts. I can think of a couple of reasons why.

1. If they pick X, fans of Y or Z complain (but this may not impact ratings)

2. Ken and Buzzy were very good, but you want a host that puts the players at ease. I don't know if you accomplish that if the host is the GOAT or another ToC winner. Some contestants might be intimidated.

FWIW, after all this, I liked Rodgers the best. Something about his low-key delivery/subtle humor that was so different from everyone else. But they'd have to already have half of next season in the can since the NFL season is about to start.

If they're going to have any additional guests hosts, here are a few I'd like to see:

Ryan Reynolds
Keegan-Michael Key
Craig Melvin
Patton Oswalt
Alex Kingston
Simon Pegg
Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Amy Sedaris

Fantasy Line-up:
Rashida Jones
Cate Blanchett
Kay Adams
Kristen Wiig
Anne Hathaway

No, just,...NO!:
Michael Strahan
Drew Barrymore
Kelly Clarkson

Faber wasn’t bad at all, did nothing annoying, no flubs, smooth, quick…
Matt laying waste

In the initial part of the Jeopardy! round, it seemed as if they'd found two contestants who could play with Matt.

Oops, nope, never mind.

The champ’s got balls. That 13K DD wager was something.

The show is so much better when it's an actual contest. It seems like he gets into a rhythm with the buzzer at times and the other contestants can't do anything. That's my main criticism about the show: buzzer ability is way too big of a factor.

Mike Richards is about to get the permanent gig.

$43k vs $600 vs $400 today, but got final wrong on a $37k wager - been a few triple stumpers on final during his run

His usual strategy is to play conservatively when he has a lot of money but he tried to pull a Holzhauzer on the FJ and it didn't work. I assume it was the category that gave him the confidence to make such a big bet.

The social media meltdowns that Levar Burton, who was objectively bad, isn’t getting the job are great

I don't recall Richards as being one of the quite good guest hosts. They do mention at the end that 'other candidates remain in the mix,' though.

It's really weird the cult-like following he has. I mentioned before how he was lobbying for the job on Twitter before Alex was even buried. Just a really creepy vibe coming from that whole camp, so glad he's out.

He wasn’t. Better than LaVar Burton though who might have been the worst guest host so far.

I thought “no way, the show is way too big and important for Sony” when people said early on that ultimately it’s Mike Richards decision and nobody would stop him from picking himself if that was what he wanted to do. Looks like I was dead wrong.

Through 3 episodes, I really like David Faber. Good pacing, no awkward pauses and just the right amount of funny. Buzzy stays #1 in my book though.

I have seen almost zero of the guest host episodes, because we don't have cable. Back at my parents for a couple weeks visit right now though and caught a couple LaVar episodes and thus far the three Faber episodes.

I've seen Rodgers clips -- and he seemed fine -- but that's about it.

LaVar was miserable, I could easily see him being the worst of any bunch. Nervous, pause-y, rigid in interviews.

Faber on the other hand has been excellent. Without seeing a single other full episode of any other guest host I'd venture he is top tier if not the best of them all. Good banter, not condescending, solid command of the game and language. In fact I'm ready to crown his ass right here and now.

Game related, Amodio is v strong. Great wide knowledge, aggressive in big inflection points. Crushes the buzzer.

Thought the big blueberry lady might get him but he brought out the sledgehammer for the Australia daily double early in DJ and never looked back.

In retrospect, Richards was fine. Most people didn't like him because he was right after Ken. I was also unaware he had game show hosting experience.

The social media whining about LeVar is LOL. I was all-in on him, thought he'd be a perfect replacement....until last week.

tbh, Faber is the best of the bunch.

I'm partial to Robin Roberts.
Faber is quite good. He's a bit cheery and smiley, but could grow into it.
Rogers was so chill. It was relaxing. Dude has no pulse.
Levar was the opposite. Waaay uptight.

Starting to like Amodio. Ultimate no-nonsense player.

Finally caught up after being behind all July due to a 2 week vacation.

Matt is a killer. Some funny things over the past month but didn't want to get spoiled in thread.

Courtney was terrible. Can't believe she won so many.

Mike Richards was good enough. I'd be fine if they kept just doing guest hosts.

When you include Jeopardy matching the winnings in donations, Matt *might* be costing Jeopardy more than James did. Probably not though.

It's almost inevitable that Matt and James end up on the same stage at some point, right?

The season ends next Friday. If Matt is still champ when would the next season start?

At the end of the GOAT tournament it was emphatically stated that it would be the last time these three would appear on the Jeopardy stage.

Season 38 starts September 13th regardless of who the returning champ is.
