He doesn't quite use James' style, though.

1. Doesn't go to the bottom of the board in SJ
2. While wagers very well on DDs, he occasionally bets small with a lead.

On the plus side. he bets FJ correctly and always shoves the DD in SJ.

Ugh. Hannah gets added to our Hall of Shame for not even trying to win. You’d think a PhD engineering candidate would understand the maths.

Yeah, I should say not so much employs style as that he seems influenced by James’ style of play.

I'm not sure I agree. There is a good chance that Ryan's episodes were taped before James' were aired.

There's nothing he's doing that he needed James as a model to figure out. we've discussed correct wagering tactics ITT thread for years. It's more likely he's emulating other strong players' tactics (Alex Jacob, Brad Rutter, Roger Craig).

The fact that he's not sweeping the bottom of the board in SJ or betting huge when he has a lead on DJ DD's suggests he might not have seen James play before his shows were taped.

thought TOC was by wins, not by $ amount.

Read the list again. The printed order is based on $ but the qualification is based on 5 time champs then 4 times champs (prioritized by $) then if spaces left, 3x champs again by $. James long run probably cut the number of other 5 and 4x winners allowing some 3xers in.

I believe in the event of too many 5x winners then any left out carry over to the next qualifying period.

Apparently there have been some shenanigans to get Emma. I think Larry? Qualifies but died and they jumped 7 names to put her in that spot. Sorry skimming a JBoard thread on my phone— I think that’s the gist though.

Wow at final jeopardy 2nd place wager tonight.
Way to flush 12K + coming back down the drain. Looks like he didn't even consider what he should have bet until he realized champ got it wrong also.

Had to laugh at the returning champ confusing John Mellencamp with John Bon Jovi. He also didn't know Murphy Brown which was a very easy FJ. Guy runs good to have won twice.

helps to have the guy in 2nd place make an idiotic bet in FJ.

These are the people who still think Jeopardy is a trivia contest.

He got the same break Friday from both players. If bet correctly then 3rd should have been locked out but since 2nd overbets so much I’m wagering $0 and hoping for a triple stumper and the big mistake from 2nd.

Nice to win from first in non crush games even when you miss.

He plays OK but definitely getting some help from his opponents.

I’m growing weary of this Sam guy. Strikes me as someone who’s personality is solely that he has a mustache...

He is wagering more James-ish, though I assume we still haven’t caught up to contestants having watched James on Tv yet

This guy who won tonight is 23, looks 43. Feel like he might win a bunch in a row, was very quick on the buzzer.

I haven't seen it mentioned here, but on ESPN's live coverage of the ME final table on Tuesday night, Norm and Lon were joined in the booth by James Holzhauer.

Yeah, I was shocked when he said he was 23. I thought he was at least 30 something.

Always, always, ALWAYS bet the dollar in a lock tie.

Ok, not ALWAYS, but unless the category is something you know you know nothing about, the sequence of events required to lose if you bet the dollar is pretty much always less likely than if you don’t.
