Anyone know what James’s stats are compared to Ken and Brad’s? Not just in terms of days or money won. But % of questions right, number of questions answered right, etc?

Holzhauer has signaled in first 55.07 percent of the time through 10 games."

I have never heard of a TOC competitor who relied on those lights (and I have talked to 20 of them). You must time it off Alex's voice alone."

as the james story gets bigger and bigger, more and more people are watching and talking about jeopardy. given there's a ton of people at every taping (and i already mentioned that there are a maximum possible of 62 james episodes already taped), that's a lot of people who could potentially ruin your enjoyment of the show.

here is a comment from a mod on reddit:

Quote:
The audience is asked to keep quiet about what they saw.

They do not sign NDAs.

This generally works, although there are some people who either choose to ignore it because they can’t help themselves, or they don’t realize the extent to which their comments are spoilers.

There have been numerous posts deleted off this subreddit because they have contained advance spoilers. Other forms of social media or news article comment sections have contained spoilers as well.
it's the wild west out there on the internet, so do tread carefully if you want to continue to read everything.

on an unrelated note i thought i would highlight now that there is a teacher's tournament starting on 6th may. if james is still going then i'm sure that's going to tilt a lot of people.

My wife is always amazed I know how much he will bet in FJ.

"Uhhh its pretty simple, hes going to bet about the max he can where if 2nd doubles and he misses it he still wins. He is far better than 50% to get the question right, so its obv +EV to bet as much money as he possibly can without giving himself the possibility of losing the game."

"Yea but I would just be happy with 65k and not risk losing much of it."

Shes a smart woman, simple gambling probability just isn't her thing I guess.

You literally only need to hit it once. You are either first or you are not. Wouldn't surprise me at all if our hero practiced a substantial amount of time. We all know it all comes down to hitting it the millisecond after the last word from Trebek.
In a perfect world with perfect timing you only need to hit it once. But this is not what the contestant coordinators recommend, nor is it what I would think is optimal. The coordinators stress repeatedly hitting the button. Now, it should be mentioned that I do not take everything they say as gospel. For instance, they strongly suggest starting from the top of the categories.

Seeing as how if you attempt to ring in too early you are locked out for 0.2 seconds, why not attempt to ring in 4 times per second, or every 0.25 seconds. That way every time you press the button you have a chance of getting through. So why not start this process before it's time to ring in? That way the worst you could do is ring in 0.24 seconds into the process and as early as 0.01, rounding to the nearest hundredth.

Regardless, you should not ever just hit it once. You can try to time it perfectly and then repeatedly hit it every 0.25 after that with no downside.

This is an interesting question. I assume if you go to a taping at CBs television city you have to sign an NDA? Otherwise I dont know hoe the lid stays on these

For example, do you think that Who Wants to Be a Millionaire would still be profitable if someone won a million every episode?

That is obviously an extreme case, and was the most I could think of to show that there clearly is a point, and we don't know what that is.
I mean, they are paying Trebek 20 mil a year. James taking 5 million off them over the course of a year isnt going to make a dent. If you are paying talent 20 mil a year you are making gobs of ****ing money.

Syndication is the closest thing in the world to an automatic money printing machine.

This. There is so much money in TV it's mind-boggling. $5M per year in prizes is a drop in the bucket.

That’s the one part of the ESPN article I knew was off base. I’ve seen multiple accounts of elite players (particularly multiple elites at the same time, like during tournament play) being able to time the buzzer so well that you would never even see the pin lights come on.

i imagine at some point james will become so gamebreakingly dominant that the showrunners will pull a ms oot 2018 and substitute one of the jobber contestants for ken jennings with half of james' stack+1 at the start of final jeopardy

i imagine at some point david sklansky will take over jeopardy, because the jeopardy people will obviously search the country for the smartest person in america, and the buzzers will be eliminated and the trivia questions replaced by calculus. now THAT'S a game show to prove who's smartest and who deserves the most money.

i like that the interview questions with james are all nice. it's all nice family stuff, he loves his family and friends. that's nice. i was worried trebek might use negative stereotypes of professional gamblers and ask like, "so what's the most cocaine you've ever done in one night?"

"you like strip clubs, james? that rhino place in vegas? you like that one?"

"what's the most you ever won?"

"but how much did you lose?"

One’s score on the math SAT (in half the normal allotted time, of course) is the only true indicator of intelligence.

Re: ringing in on the buzzer, I'm very curious about the actual moment that the buzzer sends the signal. Is it right at the beginning of pressing down? Or closer towards when it's fully pressed in? If it's the latter, it would seem that the optional tactic would be to always be holding the buzzer half-pressed in.

Jeopardy is a syndicated show. Each episode airs on various networks at various times on the same day depending on your local TV station.

Today's unusual timing in some areas may be due to coverage of the NFL Draft. For me (Los Angeles area), the Draft is on from 5:00-8:30 pm Pacific, and Jeopardy is on at 9:00 pm Pacific. Same for tomorrow.
