Nothing to do with wagers, but I've noticed that, during the interview portion of the show, every one of these teens starts their response with "So, ...". This grates on me just like the overuse of "like" in teen discourse.

To be fair, many adults have the same habit.

What about kids (on Jeopardy) not knowing Lincoln from an excerpt of the Gettysburg Address?

Exactly what I said to my wife last night "What? They don't teach the Gettysburg Address in schools any more???"

I'm just not overall a fan of the teen tourney. Questions to easy, contestants too grating.

Do the teens keep the money they win in the semis?
I assumed no... But Alex remarked “Great pay day” when Minnie Mouse voice won

I thought they won $0, just advanced
And then the finals were like 50K, 25K, 10K or whatever

I think they only advance to the finals or drop out.

If rules for the final are the same as last year, they also only get the fixed amounts there. In the adults tournament of champions, you get your total over the two finals if that’s higher than the 250k/100k/50k price. But I doubt that has ever happened?

As far as the teen tournament goes, at least we’re gonna have a nail biter until the very end when the last FJ wager is revealed. Nothing like the last TOS where Buzzy had it locked up already.

Dude is down 7k and gets DD on last clue and bets 7k of his 12k, guaranteeing a runaway if he missed and not even guaranteeing a win if he got the DD and FJ right. Lolmen

actally he was down 6800 so the 7000 bet would had gotten him the lead going into final.

Trying to find an explanation for Minnie mouse voice. It doesn't make sense.

My most reasonable guess is she was born in the UK but was not an English speaker. She heard English all the time but only knew the scandinavian language her parents forced her to use. Then around age 8 started to learn English.

I assumed she had some kind of delayed physical developmental issue, based on zero knowledge of anything.

I didn’t watch episodes from this week yet, but if RMT29 is right and he was down less than 7k: going into FJ with the lead is well worth the risk of losing to a runaway. Obviously unless you think your chances of answering DD are too low.

Oops, my bad. Could have sworn Alex said he was down by 7000.

Alex said "about 7,000" or "a little less than 7,000".

Regardless, if you are wagering enough to give your opponent a lockout game, you might as well max out (leave $100 for FJ?). High end value has to be worth more EV than the 1K difference between 2nd and 3rd.

But, in FJ, he'd probably just be betting to be $1 more than second's max either way?

It's true that if he gets FJ right he ends up with the same total in either case. But the more margin you have, the less you need to wager in FJ and that decreases the relevance of the other scores in cases such as triple stumpers. That would be the reason to max out.

Its a good point on the final total, getting to so that 2nd<2/3 of 1st is important, otherwise agree, we get the same total on getting both the DD and FJ correct.

Carol goes into our Hall of Shame for not even trying to win:

Dylan Hamilton: 17600-1201=16399 (2x = $25,598)
Carol Radlo: 9400-3500=5900
Myra Guideng: 2800-2800=0

Congrats on the perfect wager to lock up.... 2nd. :\
