Last one was March 6-8 of this year. Next one should be approximately the same time although in many of the past years it's been in January.

This 5-day champ has to be one of the most non-descript forgettable winners I’ve seen

Agreed, but 6-day. He's in super champ territory.

He's fairly forgettable yes, but seems like a nice enough guy. I like him. His DD play hasn't been great but it hasn't really needed to be yet.

Catching up.

Tuesday is our first “don’t even try to win” wager of the season from Raymond

Kyle Jones: 15800+8201=24001
Emily Brown: 12000+3599=15599
Raymond Quianzon: 4200+399=4599

Champ is Deadpool’s Clark Kent alter ego. (Nerded up Ryan Reynolds)

Some slacking going on in here. Current champ has got to be at least a Jeopardy 8. And there was a proposal during the interviews, then just skipped the champ since that took so long!

And how about some talk of the all-star teams? The first two players taken in the draft were people who have visited this thread -- Alex Jacob and Roger Craig.

Here are the teams:
Buzzy, Alex Jacob, Jennifer Giles
Austin, Roger Craig, Leonard Cooper
Ken, Matt Jackson, Monica Thieu
Julia, Ben Ingram, Seth Wilson
Colby, Pam Mueller, Alan Lin
Brad, Larissa Kelly, David Madden

I think any of those teams has a decent chance at winning, except Julia. She proves once again that she has no grasp of strategy. She said her reason for picking Ben was that she thought the most important factor was who you get along with the best. The teams with the first three picks have two dominant players but then a third who hasn't shown much, though apparently Monica beat Ken on the game show 500 Questions. Colby and Brad seem to have the best all-around teams. Colby has three players who have all demonstrated their Jeopardy skills within the past five years. Pam has gained some weight. She was pretty hot in the 2014 Battle of the Decades. Guess she has got to be near 40 now. She won the college championship in 2000. Brad's team is probably the favorite, as it has the best Jeopardy player ever in him, and at the turn he picked two players who aren't as well known as some other Jeopardy players but they run quiz competitions.

I would have written down “Guillotine”, too but that word is phonetically very different from “Guillotin” and therefore should have been ruled incorrect. At least based on last years ruling that determined “Bringham Young University” instead of “Brigham” was incorrect. In both cases one letter was added that changed the pronunciation.

IMO that’s an inconsistent ruling that could have easily been prevented by wording the clue differently.
Sorry for the mini-grunch, I've been catching up on like 40 episodes and just started the new season. I think there's a notable difference between this situation and the past one. Here, the piece of information that is very well known (and reasonably so) is the device of the guillotine itself. And most people know that it was named after its inventor. But the fact that the guy's name was actually Guillotin (and is therefore pronounced sliiiightly differently) is not well known at all, and for the sake of what's most fair in the game, this slight misspelling is very reasonable.

It just isn't the same as adding an N to Brigham Young.

On Friday, the Jeopardy 8 two-time champ hit the DD on the final clue trailing 6600-12800 and bet 2k. She blew an easy one, so it wouldn't have matter. Then the FJ was probably the new easiest FJ ever: In this ’70s Oscar-winning film, the title character’s 1st words are “Why did you go to the police? Why didn’t you come to me first?” While reading the quote, Alex did his Marlon Brando in The Godfather impression. On a top-row clue, which this should have been, fine do your voice, but that really shouldn't be allowed in FJ.

You mean Bringem Young wouldn’t be accepted?

Champ was horrible on Friday. As mentioned above plus with just the 3 200–400-600 clues left in he first round, she picks the 200 clue and lets her opponent snag the daily double.

1000% agree with Brando voice. Unacceptable.

Speaking of Joseph Smith, my favorite argument when I want to piss of main line Christians-

Scientology- invented out of thin air in the 1900s agree-YES
Mormonism invented out of thin air in the 1800s agree- YES

So wtf do you think happened 2000 years ago?

It wasn't. One player didn't have an answer, champ put "BYU" which was ruled correct and the third player put "Bringham Young University" which was ruled incorrect. Cost herself $1k by not abbreviating her answer.

FWIW, the pronunciation of Guillotin and Guillotine isn't just 'slightly different'. At least not in French. "-tin" is pronounced "tɛ̃" while "-tine" is pronounced "tin".

I agreed that Wiley Coyote instead of Wile E. Coyote was ruled correctly last week because that doesn't change the pronunciation significantly, but Guillotin/Guillotine is at least as far off from each other as Brigham/Bringham.

Really like 1st and 2nd wagers tonight. First clearly hated the World Lit category and bet accordingly, putting the game on 2nd being correct and willing to lose a double get.

2nd wins most of the time 1st misses with traditional betting.
3rd wins--NEVER--cause 1sts cover bet is 12801 leaving 5199. He gave the Johnny Football Money Money sign as the returning champ. Douche deserves to lose in horrible fashion and as known dumbazz.

Andrew Knudsen: 4600-0=4600
Carl Conway: 15400-2601=12799
Doug Dodson: 18000-2000=16000

I knew the answer but no clue how to spell the 2nd name. Wonder if I'd have gotten close enough.

I think you might be giving new champ too much credit. I'm not sure he doesn't just default to $2k wagers.

Good point, but it does make 2nd get it correct and does win if they both get it right and 2nd wagers small (which is almost always enough to pass 1st by $1 or the next round number). So I have hope it was savvy. He clearly didn't like the category.

He cover bet today, 2nd overbet and should have won a triple stumper.

I don't understand the category for fj tonight. I thought Affleck, but the category threw me off. I figured it had to be somebody that had a hyphen in their name. Or was it because Affleck was a co-writer and co-producer?
Idiotic Jeopardy wagers (no spoilers before 6 EST) Quote

Kind of the latter. Apparently we are supposed to know “hyphenate” refers to someone with two Jobs on a movie like writer-actor on GWH and producer-actor on Argo. Maybe the worst category ever.

It obviously threw them all off. Affleck was a fairly easy answer if not for the category.

Yeah, I thought it's Affleck, but is category asking for a hyphenated name? Then just thought, I don't know but I'm fairly certain it's Affleck.

It was a little confusing, but the hyphenated part referred to actor-director etc.

I get that, but it wasn't clear.

If The category was Oscar hyphenated roles, then it makes more sense.
