The female sportswriter wrote a decent article about her Jeopardy experience here:

I would be super pissed off if I lost by a dollar! If I was the woman who was the champion going into it I would have bet all my money to try to get to first place.

bah. I hate watching multiple-day champions get beaten by some fishcake who gets slaughtered in their second show.

Wow, she's a helluva writer. Thanks for posting that, I enjoyed it so much, I'm thinking about checking out her other links at the bottom of the page. Seriously.

Luckily for me, I read all the macho Tom Clancy books during the cold war, and I was quite familiar with the Sikorski helicopter. This guy on Jeopardy, however, clearly had no idea, and I remember thinking, "Too bad--that's way too manly a question for this fruit." Losing that big bet crippled him, and just his luck, FJ category was Musical Theater (which he got right, only he didn't have any chips left to bet).

I got a Tweet from Roger Craig today. Seriously.

I saw his Twitter only had about 100 followers, so I took a shot and sent him an "Atta boy!" I also asked where I could find his blog, as he had promised to blog about why he screwed up his FJ question.

He wrote back this morning:

Cliff Notes from Blog post:

Spoiler:
Dude won five games his first day of taping; didn't sleep a wink that night; up early next day taping, didn't notice the word "February" in FJ clue; saw "43 years", thought back to who hasn't won a title since the 60s but got one recently, quickly settled on Blackhawks. Quick to point out the lack of sleep is a "reason, not an excuse". Adds that he's a sports fan, and the NFL is his fav sport, especially those old 49er teams with his namesake running back. Adds that he doesn't feel bad about anything, he's still tickled with what he did accomplish.

Hot chick on jeopardy tonight, game was particularly bad. She also made a pointless bet on the last daily double.

Yeah that DD bet was pretty awful. Leader had about 12K, woman who got the DD had 2800, she bet 1000. Was really weird, with just about a minute to play, you have to go all in there and hope to hit a 2K question to pull you within half of the leader.

Was the leaders FJ wager because she was thinking she was terrible at the category? If she knew anything about the category, she could have made a much better score with a good wager, but I guess considering her answer it turned out for the best.

I was about to post almost exactly the same thing, with the exact same quote.

I also liked this one:

He's asking you who you're talking about. So were all the other responses to your earlier post.

quite an epic DJ round. Curious whether he got a lot of good categories or he can keep this up, cause he was pretty miserable in the jeopardy round.

i think it takes a bit for people to get used to the signaling. as for his double jeopardy stomping, it seemed like he hit a cliff claven-esque round, got lucky that his opponents were dumb, and was able to master the signaling. i think he's an average champion and is probably a dog to win tonight.

omfg todays jeopardy put me on legit tilt.

Stacks going into final jeopardy 11.4k, 10.4k and 2800 or something.

First bet like enough to cover 2nd by 1 or whatever which is fine, and 3rd bet something that shouldn't matter like 700. And now 2nd place bet 10.4k!!!!

Results: Everyone missed and the 2800 ended up winning. 2nd has to bet somewhere between like 0-4799 anything else is just pretty awful

your post puts me on tilt imo.

Didn't see it, but you imply that player #1 will bet exactly the way he did when deciding what #2 should bet. #2 did not have that info.

A contestant the other night put Animal Planet down for her answer on the final question, when the question asked for the title of a show! lol

you act like its a mystery what the leader will bet. do you really think the leader is going to bet an amout that will leave his with less than twice second place's total?

who cares? i prefer when someone gives an answer that is moronic than when they give no answer at all, because no answer is the most moronic response possible. the only reason not to respond when you have no idea what the answer is is the denigration from people like you who go, "durr, cleveland wasnt a 20th century president--what an idiot!" but you would never say anything about someone who says "i dont know."

That Animal Planet question was BS, any way. No wonder no contestant got it right.

The subject was "Prime Time TV", and the answer was "Cops", a syndicated show which has never aired in prime time in the three different tv markets where I have lived.
