Is this true for Seinfeld as well?

So all of your all-time best sitcom are current shows and 3 of them currently air on NBC Thursday evenings? I'm not sure why you're focus is so narrow but your missing out on tons of good stuff. Not having at least one of Seinfeld, MASH, or All in the Family on your list is kind of bad.

yeah i really like that nbc line up. i couldve listed some of my old favorites but im not sure how well they stand the test of time.

I still watch reruns of Cheers, Seinfeld, MASH, etc... they all hold up well. Quality is quality regardless of when it was made.

Yes. They augment every single episode with laugh tracks in addition to the good live reactions they got from the audience taping.

EDIT: The benefit you get from live tapings is unforeseen reactions, stuff like in that episode where George is telling the story of saving the beached whale. He reaches into his shirt pocket and pulls out "the obstruction." Right before Kramer's brilliant closing line "Is that a Titleist?" you can hear a woman yelp in surprise right as George reveals the golf ball. It's a terrific live reaction. But that stuff is always augmented with a full laugh track because it sounds cleaner and sometimes there was a take that had a better performance -- like, take 1 got the biggest laugh (surprise element) but take 3 had the best delivery.

The list would be too long. Seinfeld, MASH and All in the Family are probably my top three though. P&R, 30Rock, Community of course - UK and first 3 (maybe 4) seasons of the US Office, Party Down, Curb, Cheers, Frasier... I could go on for quite a while.

If your going to have laughter in an sitcom you can't get away from the laugh track. After multiple takes of a scene the enthusiasm from the audience is going to dwindle. You're just not going to be able to laugh at a joke the same way after you've watched the cast act it out 5 times.

Oh ok, didnt know that, always thought Seinfeld was original laughter.

Yeah I mean there's no way to tell what % of the track is "sweetened" by the canned laughter and what % is live, but trust me that if they just used raw laughter from an audience, it would sound so horrible and weird that you'd hate it a lot more than you hate a laugh track.

Parks and Rec is better than Community imo.

And I think I am the only one on whole 2+2 who wasnt too impressed with AD.

It's probably funnier, but I don't think it's better.

oh yeah i used to love threes company too. also forgot to add arrested devlopment, but it gets so much praise around here it doesnt matter.

It's been too long or I've missed too many episodes to include any older sitcoms. I really wanna watch MASH(I've liked all the eps I've seen) and All in the Family.

If Simpsons gets in on quality, esp when you have to use the clause of only its peak, then SP def deserves mention.

I'm only 1/3 of the way through season 2, but I just wanted to bump this thread to say this show is amazing.

I watched ep1 of season 1 3 weeks ago and have watched 30 episodes since; thrilled I have another 100 episodes to go and then we get 2 more seasons at least since it's been renewed through 8
