Season 1 was pretty cheesy in general and season 2 went overly cheesy with the Ross/Rachel plot, but it was still decent throughout. Seasons 3-5 were really good, 6 was good and 7 was OK. Season 8 started out really great though. The first handful of episodes were funny as hell. It went downhill about midway through and only got worse till the end.

But there are more enjoyable episodes throughout the Friends series then there will ever be with HIMYM considering how horrid these last 2 seasons were. And I say that considering how great HIMYM was the first 3.5 seasons. I liked those seasons more then I ever did any of Friends seasons, but it got so bad recently that it now ranks below Friends overall.

I liked Barney better when he was picking up random multiple women every episode. Barney hasn't gotten laid in a while... poor guy.

Non In-universe:IIRC Ted says that and then we see Barney. The audience is supposed to think "Who's the groom Ted is talk....it's BARNEY?!"

I see the comparisons btw HIMYM and Friends. The first 4 seasons of HIMYM were infinitely better than anything Friends put out imo, but these past two seasons have sucked so hard (tho there is a good episode like 1/4 of the time) that it will never reach the level of the so-called 'great' sitcoms.

That's pretty much what I was saying, accept I go 3.5 season of HIMYM. And there are a small handful of episodes of Friends that I would put right up there with the best of HIMYM.

I watched most of friends while it aired and it was a pretty bad show. It had it's moments, though. Imo, the last few seasons of friends were as bad as recent himym. It was bad enough I quit watching and only saw episodes here and there so maybe I missed all the good ones.

edit. The average ep in the first few seasons of himym >>> avg ep of early friends, imo.

Good job figuring out what the obvious, non-twist resolution is. Bad job not realizing there's a pretty reasonable chance there's a twist, though. It's like you haven't watched an episode of HIMYM in your lives, or don't understand probability, or I don't know what.

Yes "of course" it's probably Barney who's the groom. Until the writers decide it's not, of course.

i figured having to cash out all my stars money would reduce my tilt but this thread is making up for it. i was a huge himym fan but now i just go thru the motions (still read the thread, obv...but more to know i'm not alone in my frustrations). i'll watch cuz i'm a tv junkie with loads of free time but i don't care anymore. and i'm shocked anybody else does. is it more pathetic i don't care but watch anyway or that others care at all? i don't know. but i am really surprised anybody still cares enough to debate the show. it's not worth our time, imo. trying to have a rational discussion about future himym events is lol cuz, despite what the creators claim about direction, the show has been at such a standstill (for years now) that trying to predict direction is futile when the end of the line could be achieved in the next 5 seconds of the show or, god forbid, take 5 years if it keeps getting renewed.

This just isn't true for the first 4 seasons, and because I bought my wife the complete collection for a present, I can unfortunately say this with a ton of confidence.

i dled the whole friends series and watched about 1 minute before i deleted it all. i really dont like laugh tracks.

I also disagree with the assumption that friends and HIMYM are so similar beyond superficial details. Yes, both shows have groups of twenty-thirty somethings in NYC. However, the story structure is completely different, the style of humor is clearly different, and the themes of the show differ significantly.

Now, a ton of things relate back to Friends (stable couple that drives the show, group has a hangout, etc, etc), but these are things that you'll find in virtually every long lasting sitcoms (The Office, That 70s Show, Scrubs, etc, etc) before and after Friends.

I'm assuming you were weighing in on the Friends/HIMYM comparison going on, so for the record, HIMYM has a laugh track too.

Just cos people are laughing does not mean it has a laugh track. Im pretty sure you are the same guy who said how terrible TBBT was for the same reason before people pointed out that was filmed in front of a live audience.

yeah i am. to clarify though i think bbt sucks but not cause of the laughing. just cause i think it sucks. same with friends. how am i supposed to know the audience would laugh at such awful jokes.
